Discernment
New Rector Search Update

As you know, Harcourt Parish is currently without a full-time rector, and we are engaged in the process of filling that position. With the arrival of Sister Carin as our interim priest, we are moving into the next stage of the process--a stage called "discernment."

We are a unique parish and community. Our search for a new rector is garnering attention. We have deep historical ties to the Episcopal Church and its leadership. We have historical, social, personal, and physical ties to the college where we sit. And so our search is drawing interest from the Diocese and from the College. We also face somewhat unusual challenges. Our building--it is owned by the college. Our membership--having declined in recent years, is small now. But our relationships with the College and the Diocese also present opportunities. Our mission, our future, who we serve, and how we serve--those matters are for us to discern, to discover, and to articulate. Ultimately the process leads to concrete goals and activities, and perhaps most relevant to this discussion, the process will help reveal the qualities and skills we will be seeking in our pastoral candidates.

In the next few weeks during this Advent season, we will  conduct several discernment meetings at various times and places. Please watch for e-mails and announcements listing the dates and locations of these meetings. We hope that each of you will find one that is convenient for you to attend.
Advent Evening Prayer
Dec. 1st-23rd

Advent is a time of prayerful anticipation. Take time away from the stresses of the season and join us around the altar on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5 p.m. for Advent evening prayer.

Regular Wednesday Eucharist at 5 p.m. will continue.

Advent Private Prayer Offerings
Sundays in Advent

During Advent there will be paper and pens/pencils available at the doors so that people may write down prayer requests and then place them in the offering plates during the offertory. These will not be opened or read aloud, but they will be blessed along with the plate offering.

Advent Supper
Dec. 10th
Canterbury students warmly invite the parishioners of Harcourt Parish to join them for dinner and cookie decorating at 5:30 p.m. at the Parish House.
Food for the Hungry
Dec. 13th Donation Drive

Stop by the Village Market to drop off nonperishable food items for the Interchurch pantry.

Harcourt volunteers will ring bells and make a joyous noise to collect food and cash donations at the Village Market from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Please consider volunteering for an hour. Please see Buffy Hallinan to participate.

Giving Tree
Harcourt Parish Outreach

Each year we are given the names of local families who need a little extra help at Christmas. Please feel free to take a tag or two off the Giving Tree on either Sunday, Nov. 30th or Dec. 7th.

When you remove a tag from the tree, PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN the clipboard next to the tree, so we know who is responsible for each gift tag.

Purchase the items listed on the tag and bring the gifts back to the church by Dec. 14. Please DO NOT wrap the presents. You can either put them in a gift bag or leave them in the shopping bag. We will provide the parents with wrapping paper when they pick up the gifts.

If you have questions, please contact Maureen Tobin.

Christmas Eve Services
Wednesday, Dec. 24th
Hymn Sing, 10 p.m.
Choral Eucharist, 10:30 p.m.
(There will be no 5 p.m. service on Christmas Eve and no service on Christmas Day.)
Final Sunday of December
Dec. 28th
We will celebrate a simple spoken Eucharist, and we'll sing favorite Christmas hymns a cappella. Be ready to shout out your favorite number!
Save the Date
Epiphany Party on January 6th
Join fellow parishioners at Buffy and Bob Hallinan's home to celebrate Epiphany on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Bring your favorite appetizer or dessert to share!
Stewardship 2015
Giving Update
The 2015 Stewardship Campaign is well on its way to reaching our $100,000 goal. As of Sunday, November 23rd, we have received pledges from 27 households totaling $78,560. It is heartening to see that the vast majority of households have either maintained or increased their giving level from 2014. However, there are still a number of households from which we are hoping to receive pledge cards. If you have been a regular donor in the past, or feel like this is the year you would like to start pledging for the first time, we ask that you prayerfully consider your pledge, and send in your card as soon as possible. If you have any questions about stewardship, please speak with a member of the vestry.
