Naturopathic Medicine and Cancer
| |
By Dr Asal Shalviri, Naturopath
Naturopathic medicine takes a holistic, or whole-person, approach to cancer care. It makes use of time-tested, scientifically grounded, natural methods to strengthen the body's ability to heal itself.
Naturopathic clinicians are specialists in natural health care who use natural, non-toxic therapies to support the whole person and encourage the inherent self-healing process, with an emphasis on building health. Their goal is to minimize the risk of harmful effects on you, and apply the least possible force or intervention necessary to diagnose illness and restore your health.
Many of the immune-supporting therapies naturopathic doctors provide can help patients recover from cancer treatment faster and support overall health. The protocols and therapies Naturopathic doctors may employ include botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, acupuncture, and counseling.

Poor Posture - an RMT's perspective
|
By Tessa Anadarko
Registered Massage Therapist
Fatigue is one of the most common causes of bad posture. Tired and tight muscles cannot support the skeleton as they are designed to do. Your muscles have to work extra hard just to hold you up if you have poor posture, leaving you without energy. Lack of adequate muscle flexibility and strength, abnormal joint motion in the spine and other body regions will lead to overall muscle fatigue.
What Poor Posture Looks Like
Poor posture is the result of musculoskeletal distortion in the neck, and lower and upper back. Most people think of poor posture as simply slumping over, but that is not necessarily the case. Due to the variety of body types, incorrect posture differs from person to person...read the full article. .
Registered Massage Therapists can make exercise recommendations based on observations in their treatment with you and will work with you to improve your posture.
We have seven registered massage therapists. For more information please visit our website or to book in call or email Reception.

Treating Male Factor Infertility with Acupuncture
|
Dani Foster, R.Ac.
It takes two.
Contrary to popular belief, a stunning 40% of infertility cases are attributed to male factors. Another 20% are due to unknown causes. This essentially means that half of the infertility cases are due to male factors. And yet, it is common place for many health practitioners to only have the female partner seek treatment!
Male fertility is determined by adequate sperm formation, quality and delivery. Disturbance in any or all of these areas can result in infertility or miscarriage (by affecting fertilization, implantation or embryo development). Generally, when fertility issues are present, a semen analysis is done by a general practitioner or naturopath. Although semen analysis can be very helpful for indicating obvious abnormalities, it is important to note that a semen analysis is not a fertility test. Up to 30% of males who present with "normal" semen analysis may have abnormal sperm function...
How can Acupuncture help?
By focusing on the body as a whole and correcting the patterns of imbalance that are presented in a each case of infertility, acupuncture treatment can help to create a systemic environment that favors reproductive health...
Dani Foster offers complimentary 15 minute consulations for anyone with questions about how acupuncture can help them. Please contact Reception to book in or for more information.

Spinal Heath - Daily Maintenance Exercises
|
Attached are some minimal suggestions to help you look after your spine on a daily basis as well as a Posture Score Sheet. The exercises are done to help prevent recurrences of spinal and related health problems. Back Exercises should deal with flexibility first, strength second.
These exercises should be done: * Standing, feet comfortably apart, do not bend knees. * Only as far as comfortable in each direction. * 5-10 times in each direction * Once per day, whatever time is convenient. * Slowly * Forever, except when a problem exists.* (forever is the hard part)
*Regular maintenance is important. If you experience any discomfort or pain, it might be time for your "tune-up". How did you do on the Posture Score Sheet?
For more information or to book in with one of our Chiropractors, please contact Reception.

Practitioner Spotlight: Tessa Anadarko, RMT
| |
One thing most people don't know about me is...I went on an incredible journey through Japan for 9 months learning about the culture and their beautiful language!
My all time favorite movie is...Well I don't think I would ever be able to pick just one, I enjoy such a large spectrum of movies so here are a few of my favorites: Pride and the Prejudice, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Super Troopers.
I like to spend my free time...with my friends and family drinking good wine, eating great food!
Biggest pet peeve is...drivers that don't think it's important to use their turn signal and people with umbrellas that insist on walking under the awnings of a sidewalk in the pouring rain!
My favorite comfort food...my go to would be cheese, crackers and pickles.
3 things I couldn't live without are...my family, my cat and my music!
The #1 most played song on my ipod would be...well here are some of my top classics that will always make me smile The Lumineers-HeyHo, Barenaked Ladies-Lovers in Dangerous Time, Cars-Just What I Need, The Cure-Close To Me, Wilco-Jesus Etc., Mumford and Sons-Little Lion Man, The Outfield-Your Love, Men Without Hats-The Safety Dance, The Philosopher Kings-Cry, Eagle Eye Cherry-Save Tonight.
Best advice received...
- Don't focus on the destination, enjoy the journey.
- Treat others the way you want to be treated.
- Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.
I became interested in a career in Massage Therapy...Massage Therapy is just something that I always knew I would do one day! Massage and art have always been my passion, a constant in my life.
