Remember Our Fallen - One Wreath At A Time

Dear Board Members,

Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy has once again chosen to participate in the Wreaths Across America program, which honors our nation's veterans.  Founded in 2006 in Maine, the organization began by laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery.  Each year since that time, thousands of wreaths are simultaneously laid on graves throughout the United States.

Last year was our first year to participate.  Almost at the same time, Peggy Winters-Thompson and I both approached Suzanne Doonan to begin the efforts here in Macon.  The nearest participating cemeteries are in Andersonville and Milledgeville.  Peggy did a marvelous job of pulling this event together at the last minute, and this year she and her team have set a goal of 1000 wreaths at Riverside Cemetery.  Volunteers have been working hard to identify where the veterans are buried, their branch of service, and when they served.

We would love to have 100% board member participation in this effort.  Each wreath is $15 and can be ordered by clicking here.  You can also go to the Wreaths Across America website and under events, click on location and then enter the zip code.  If you'd like, you can also donate to this event directly to the cemetery by contacting Suzanne Doonan.

Your support, even if you only purchase one wreath, will help us make the statement that Riverside Cemetery cares about its veterans, and remembers them at times other than holidays.  We would also love for you to mark your calendars for December 13, 2014, at 12:00 Noon, when the momentous event will occur.  We will have a brief ceremony in front of the Gatehouse, followed by the actual laying of the wreaths.

Thank you for all you do.

Kind regards,

Suzanne Minarcine
