Groups affiliated with the funding and construction of the Trail's first section on the river's west side stretching north towards Amerson Water Works Park will be on hand to do the honors. Live music will accompany the festivities, sponsored by Macon's summer music festival Bragg Jam, which was one of the financial benefactors for this section and has been a major supporter of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail since its beginning.

Funding for the Trail's Riverside Cemetery Portion was secured through a Georgia Department of Transportation construction grant proposed by Chairman Sam Hart and the Bibb County Board of Commissioners, with matching funds and project assistance rendered by NewTown Macon. According to NewTown Executive Vice President Laura Schofield, donors for the local match portion included the E.J. Grassmann Trust, the James Hyde Porter Testamentary Trust and Bragg Jam.

Trail Clean Up Monday Afternoon 4:30 P.M. - 6:30 P.M. April 1 (No Foolin'!)

Won't you lend a hand to spruce us up for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Trail? Scout Troop 170 did a fantastic cleanup on March 9. However, recent rains have washed in a bit more debris. Meet us at the Gate House at 4:30 P.M. Work gloves and trash bags provided. Email suzanne.doonan@riversidecemetery.com with questions or to confirm that you can come by for an hour or so to help us out!

Spring Spirit Stroll

Thanks to everyone who attended the Spring Spirit Stroll during the Cherry Blossom Festival. It was fun meeting a host of fellow tapophiles and sharing the beauty and history of our historic cemetery with you!

Thanks also go to the dedicated volunteers who make this event happen. Volunteers who drive from Warner Robins, Forsyth, and Gray; who come straight from work to turn up half an hour early every single day in spite of illness, rain, sleet, and injury! See Weldon Ledbetter, pictured here, with her orthopedic boot and crutch, costumed to portray Mary Evans Glass!
