Books & Authors - WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN
Looking for your next great read? A new feature in the MeL database Books & Authors is both fun and informative when it comes to finding a good book. WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN lets you browse by selecting any 3 from choices under Character, Subject, Location, and Time Period. Type or choose from a drop down menu and watch as the database responds with a visual representation of your search terms. Hundreds of characters (WHO), activities (WHAT), locations (WHERE), and Time Periods (WHEN) can be combined to reveal titles that fit the selected criteria.
Combining Alternative Worlds (WHAT), with Michigan (WHERE), and 21st Century AD (WHEN), I find there is a title that matches all 3 criteria! (who would have guessed!) A bonus to this useful search is that the results link to MeLCat so staff and patrons can check availability of their newly discovered treasures. Michigan residents or Michigan library access only.MeL Minutes are brought to you by the Library of Michigan.

Book Discussion Group - April
The "Rabid Reader" Book Club welcomes new members anytime at the Ludington Library. Their next meeting will be Friday, April 17th at 9:30 a.m.
This month's book is the Tanka poetry collection "Urban Tumbleweed: Notes from a Tanka Diary" by Harryette Mullen.
From Amazon.com: "Urban Tumbleweed is the poet Harryette Mullen's exploration of spaces where the city and the natural world collide. Written out of a daily practice of walking, Mullen's stanzas adapt the traditional Japanese tanka, a poetic form suited for recording fleeting impressions, describing environmental transitions, and contemplating the human being's place in the natural world. But, as she writes in her preface, "What is natural about being human? What to make of a city dweller taking a 'nature walk' in a public park while listening to a podcast with ear-bud headphones?"
Visit or call the Libraries at (231) 843-8465 or (231) 757-2588 to reserve a copy, or to ask about getting a copy through MeLCat.
If you are interested in joining the Rabid Reader book group, or would like more information, please email [email protected], or ask for details at the Ludington Front Desk. |
