Summer is in full swing. Have you been to the beach yet? How about the Ludington State Park? Don't wait too long, or summer will be over. Stop at your local library before the stay-cation, after work, or any time - because we have books and DVDs to take home or to take along. There are plenty of resources and programs available at both Ludington and Scottville libraries for everyone.
Every month the libraries add hundreds of new books, magazines, and DVDs to the shelves. Click the 'NEW BOOK ALERTS' below to see just some of the new books and DVDs the library offers. Visit the library and check them out or go online to reserve them.
Don't have time to come to the library? MCDL's collection of downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, music and videos continues to grow. Check out all the new titles at the library's Up North Digital Collection. And if you love magazines then read your favorite titles (over 100) available at Zinio - with no check out or return you just download and read - FREE.

Annual Friends of the Library Used Book Sale
When:
Saturday, July 12, 9 am - 5 pm, and Sunday, July 13, 10 am - 5 pm
Where:
Outside the Ludington Library, 217 E Ludington Ave, Ludington, MI
The Friends of the Library raises funds which are turned over to the library for various uses. The Friends have provided funds for new books and videos, book shelves, book carts, storage cabinets, paperback racks, and new furniture in the Reading Area. The Friends offer funds which are used for the library's many children's programs, from providing paperback books to give as prizes for the Summer Reading Program, to paying for performers and events such as the summer magic show.

Magic Show!
Families of all ages are invited to 'Fizz, Boom, Read!' at the MCDL with Magician Gordon Russ.
Gordon will be giving 3 performances Monday, July 7. He will be amazing Ludington audiences at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Ludington Library, and he will astound the people of Scottville at 4:00 pm at the Scottville Library.
Gordon's shows display plenty of sleight-of-hand, oodles of jokes, and loads of audience participation. This performance is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Ludington Library.

Magic Lessons!
Gordon the Magician will be at the Library in Ludington, Thursday, July 10 to teach young magicians some of his favorite tricks. Magic students age 8 and younger are invited to attend a class at 1:00 pm. Aspiring magicians age 8 and older will have class at 2:30 pm.
Registration is required, as space is limited for this popular event. Please call 231-843-8465 to register.

Summer Science Camp
Young scientists are invited to the 'Fizz, Boom, Read!' Science Camp at the Mason County District Library, 217 East Ludington Avenue in Ludington.
Dates are Mondays, July 14, 21, and 28, from 10:00 am to noon. Programs to be announced.
Space is limited for this program, and registration is REQUIRED. Students entering 3rd through 6th grades next fall may register at the library. This program is free of charge. Registration forms are available at the Mason County District Libraries in Ludington and Scottville.

StarLab Planetarium Program
Explore the wonders of the night skies at your library! The Starlab Planetarium will be at the Mason County District Library in Ludington Monday, July 14. Shows will run continuously from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Shows include "The Sky in Your Eyes", with sky orientation, what you can see in tonight's sky, meteorites, constellations, and when you can see them. In "The Planets," audience members will explore planet names and myths, learn which planets are visible, and who discovered them. "Men, Myths and Monsters of the Summer and Fall Skies" features traditional Greek and Roman stories about the sky, constellations, and stars. These and other planetarium shows are offered for FREE at your library Monday, July 14. Children under age 8 MUST be accompanied by an adult. This planetarium visit is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Ludington Library. |
Teddy Bear Picnic
Children are invited to bring a favorite stuffed friend to a Teddy Bear Picnic at the Scottville Library on Wednesday, July 16 at 10:30 am. Learn about teddy bears, create a craft, and share a picnic with your favorite bear or sleep buddy.

Made in Michigan
Monday, July 21 at 11:00 am come on over to the Ludington Library for a children's program on products made in Michigan. It's part of our Summer Reading Program and will be held in the West Shore Bank Room. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. All Mason County District Library programs are FREE. |
On Monday, July 28 at 11:00 am, swing in to the Ludington Library for a children's program we are calling "Summer-een" - like Halloween only in the summer. Multiple activities will be available for fun, games, and entertainment - for instance Watermelon Carving. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. All Mason County District Library programs are FREE. |

Starting Friday, July 11, stop by the Library's booth at Friday Night Live, between 6:00 - 9:00 pm for yummy cool treats and fun crafts.

Book Discussion Group - July
A book discussion group meets at the Ludington Library. The next meeting will be Friday, July 18th at 9:30 a.m.
This month's book is "The White Cascade, The Great Northern Railway Disaster and America's Deadliest Avalanche" by Gary Krist. Visit or call the Libraries at 231-843-8465 or 231-757-2588 to reserve a copy, or to ask about getting a copy through MeLCat.

Block Party Saturdays
Children and their families are invited to a Block Party using Lego brand bricks every Saturday between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, at Ludington Library. Blocks will be provided by the library. Children under age 3 are NOT invited to this event - there are many, many small parts that could be ingested.
