Happy New Year from your Mason County District Libraries! Celebrate the New Year of 2014 by reading something new... and see below for how to get new arrival alerts. More movie DVDs have been added to our shelves, and there are new magazines and newspapers available daily. Our website is available 24/7 from your computer or tablet, http://www.MCDLibrary.org, where you can keep up to date on happenings with the interactive calendar, or click around to find about the numerous resources and programs that are available at both Ludington and Scottville libraries.

 

Click the 'NEW BOOK ALERTS,' below to see just some of the new books and DVDs the library offers. Visit the library and check them out, or go online to reserve them. Also, new books are available ever day via the library's UpNorth Digital Collection, the electronic lending library. Use your smart phone, iPad, Kindle, Nook, or other eReader device and borrow today! And if you love magazines, you can read your favorite titles (over 70) available at Zinio - with free checkout and you never need to return them. You just download and read -  FREE. NEW BOOKS & VIDEOS AT MCDL

 New Book Alerts 

Discovery Club

In January, Discovery Club is meeting on the 1st Wednesday. Retired teacher Kathy Radtke will lead students as they explore or world through books, games, art, and other activities. For the 2013-2014 school year, the theme is Discovering Michigan.

Children in grades 2-5 are invited on Wednesday, January 8, at 4 pm. Snacks are provided. Please call 231-843-8465 if you have questions.
 
Family Craft Time in Scottville

The whole family can join in for family crafts. Come in to the Scottville Library on Tuesday, January 7, from 3-5:30 pm. This month, the craft is Beaded Snowflakes. Families are invited to drop in any time between 3:00 and 5:30 pm. All supplies are provided. Snacks and refreshments are served. It's a good time for all. Adult Craft in Ludington
 
Tuesday, January 7 at 6:00 pm, adult crafters are invited to the West Shore Bank Room at the Ludington Library. There is a limit of 20 participants. Supplies are provided at no charge, but donations are appreciated.

Christmas Break Children's Activities 

Children of all ages are invited to the Mason County District Library in Ludington during Christmas break for free children's activities. There will be crafts and art projects, puzzles, and card and board games available from 10:30-5:30 pm on Thursday and Friday, January 2 and 3, and on the weekends as staffing permits.
 
In addition, there will also be video games and Legos on some of the days, depending on available space. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult. All Mason County District programs are free.

 

 

Book Discussion Group - January   

 
A book discussion group meets at the Ludington Library, on the 3rd Friday of each month, at 9:30 am. The next meeting will be Friday, January 17th. 
 
This month's book is "And the Mountains Echoed", a fictional novel by Khaled Hosseini. Visit or call the Libraries at 231-843-8465 or 231-757-2588 to reserve a copy.

Dig into Digital at the Libraries 
  

The Library continues to offer one-on-one instruction on using eReaders and audio devices with Library materials. Drop in Saturdays any time between 12:00 noon and 4:30 pm at Ludington Library to test drive top-selling devices and learn how to use the Library's FREE downloadable collection. 

 

If you are in the Scottville area, Chris is also available for digital help on Wednesday evenings between 5:30 and 7:30

 

If you already have a device and are looking for assistance, please bring a laptop, if possible, and the USB cable to connect your device to a computer.

Block Party Saturdays   
  

Children and their families are invited to a Block Party using Lego brand bricks every Saturday between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, at Ludington Library. Blocks will be provided by the library. Children under age 3 are NOT invited to this event - there are many, many small parts that could be ingested.
