The holidays are fast approaching. Take some time out for yourself, and come on in to get a couple of books to read, or movies to watch. Click the 'NEW BOOK ALERTS,' below to see just some of the new books and DVDs the library offers. Visit the library and check them out, or go online to reserve them. Also, new books are available ever day via the library's UpNorth Digital Collection, the electronic lending library. Use your smart phone, iPad, Kindle, Nook, or other eReader device and borrow today! And if you love magazines, you can read your favorite titles (over 70) available at Zinio - with free checkout and you never need to return them. You just download and read -  FREE. NEW BOOKS & VIDEOS AT MCDL

 New Book Alerts 

Family Craft Time in Scottville

Looking for a fun activity to do with the whole family? Come in to the Scottville Library Tuesday, December 3, from 3-5:30 pm. This month, the craft is Christmas card holders. Families are invited to drop in any time between 3:00 and 5:30 pm. All supplies are provided. Snacks and refreshments are served. It's a good time for all. Please call 231-757-2588 if you have questions.
 
Adult Craft in Ludington
 
Tuesday, December 3 at 6:00 pm, crafters are invited to the West Shore Bank Room at the Ludington Library to create fabric Christmas ornaments.  This activity is open to adults only.  There is a limit of 20 participants.  Supplies are provided at no charge, but donations are appreciated. 

 

Discovery Club

In December, Discovery Club is meeting on the 2nd Wednesday. Retired teacher Kathy Radtke will lead students as they explore or world through books, games, art, and other activities. For the 2013-2014 school year, the theme is Discovering Michigan.

Children in grades 2-5 are invited on Wednesday, December 11, at 4 pm to make handmade Christmas ornaments to decorate the library, and to take home. Snacks are provided. Please call 231-843-8465 if you have questions.
 
Children's Christmas Craft Night
 
There will be a Christmas Craft Night for children at the Mason County District Library in Ludington Friday, December 6, 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Activities include crafts and stories. Children who are able to handle scissors and other implements of creation competently on their own are invited to attend. 
 
Children must be checked in and out of the library by an adult. The Library closes at 6:00 pm; doors will not open for the party until 6:45. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult for the evening. All Mason County District Library programs are presented free of charge.  

 

Christmas Create-A-Gift                

Last-minute holiday gift givers are invited to Mason County District Library in Ludington Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20, noon to 5:00 pm to create a gift.  Supplies will be provided for creating handmade gifts.  Givers of all ages are invited to attend.  The activity will continue through the weekend while supplies last.  

Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult.  All Mason County District Library programs are free. 

 

Book Discussion Group - December   

 
A book discussion group meets at the Ludington Library, on the 3rd Friday of each month, at 9:30 am. The next meeting will be Friday, December 20th. 
 
This month's book is the historical fiction: "The Bookseller's Sonnets" by Andi Rosenthal. Visit or call the Libraries at 231-843-8465 or 231-757-2588 to reserve a copy.

Christmas Break Children's Activities 

Children of all ages are invited to the Mason County District Library in Ludington during Christmas break for free children's activities. There will be crafts and art projects, puzzles, and card and board games available from 10:30-5:30 pm December 20, 23, 26, 27, and 30, and January 2 and 3, and on the weekends as staffing permits.
 
In addition, there will also be video games and Legos on some of the days, depending on available space. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult. And don't forget to Light Up the Lake at our free Family New Year's Eve Party Tuesday, December 31, 7:00-11:30 pm. 
 
Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult at this particular party. All Mason County District programs are free.

Light Up the Lake!

Ludington Library invites families, children and teens to celebrate New Year's Eve with a family party Tuesday, December 31, 7:00-11:30 pm. There will be crafts, games and activities for party-goers of all ages - including board games, lots of Legos, and video games. 

At 11:30 pm, the party will leave the Library and parade downtown to enjoy the downtown Ball Drop. Light Up the Lake with your family at the Ludington Library! Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

 
Dig into Digital at the Libraries 
  

The Library continues to offer one-on-one instruction on using eReaders and audio devices with Library materials. Drop in Saturdays any time between 12:00 noon and 4:30 pm at Ludington Library to test drive top-selling devices and learn how to use the Library's FREE downloadable collection. 

 

If you are in the Scottville area, Chris is also available for digital help on Wednesday evenings between 5:30 and 7:30

 

If you already have a device and are looking for assistance, please bring a laptop, if possible, and the USB cable to connect your device to a computer.

Block Party Saturdays   
  

Children and their families are invited to a Block Party using Lego brand bricks every Saturday between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, at Ludington Library. Blocks will be provided by the library. Children under age 3 are NOT invited to this event - there are many, many small parts that could be ingested.
