REAL STORIES
In our program spotlight this month we talked about the work our clinical staff is doing using a model known as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or TF-CBT. It has provided very effective tools to help clients understand the life-long effects that traumatic events in their past have on their lives, and learn the skills to confront and in some cases re-gain control of one's life.
A case in point came to our Whitinsville Clinic recently in the form of a letter from "Sarah"...

Greetings from the CEO,
This month we will, once again, talk about some of what we're learning through our service evaluation activities, this time focusing on the effectiveness of some of our therapy models, especially TF-CBT (Read on to see that that stands for).
Also, Congratulations to staff and programs for excellent individual work, and on the receipt of funding for our first In-school behavioral health clinics.
As usual, at this time of year, we're also interested in having fun...See our "Family Corner" for some ideas for fun with your family.
If you are not having fun, you should be! Take care, have a safe summer, and...don't forget to water the grass!
Sincerely,
Earl "Skip" Stuck

Family Corner
SUMMER FUN ...FOR EVERYONE!
Summer is, or at least should be a time of fun and recreation. Warm weather, longer days, time off from school, and hopefully a vacation from work provide millions of us with summers to remember. However, not everyone always gets to participate. Opportunities for the disabled, for children with special needs, and those without transportation or financial resources can be limited. But all hope is not lost! There are a lot of events and opportunities ...if you know where to look. Here is a sample, from the folks at www.spedchildmass.com, and other sources that you might find interesting. There's a lot to do, so go and have some fun!

What is TF-CBT, and How does Family Continuity use it to help the families and individuals it serves?
For the past three years, all Family Continuity clinicians have been trained in a therapeutic model known as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is an "evidenced-based" model, which means that across the country, its effectiveness has been widely tested, evaluated and proven to make real differences in the lives of clients.

It's Race Time!
We are excited to announce that the Second Annual High Five 5K road race to benefit Family Continuity has been set for Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 9:30 am, to start and finish at Hemisphere's Restaurant on Town Neck in Sandwich, MA.
Our first race last October exceeded our expectations with 233 runners registered, and those who participated will remember a perfect day weather-wise, a beautiful seaside course, and a terrific family-fun atmosphere. This year, once again, we will be working with the folks from the "Mullet Marathon" who did a great job with last year's organization, registration and promotion.
If you want to get a flavor of the day, please go to the website at http://highfive5k.com, see the pictures, video, andmost important, the registration form for the upcoming 2013 event. A great event last year will be even better this year, hope to see you all there!

Program News:
Whitinsville clinic receives funding to expand school based services
Congratulations are due to the staff of the Whitinsville clinic, who have received the go-ahead for funding to expand school-based clinical services through a Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts Activation Fund grant for its In-School Behavioral Health Clinics project. This award of $38,720 will fund a creative approach in addressing the mental health needs of it's communities through the establishment of Behavioral Health Clinics in High Schools in both Uxbridge and Northbridge. The grant is the result of a strong collaboration between our agency, the schools, the medical community and town officials. It is expected to start this fall, and we will report on its progress as it unrolls. Read more about this exciting project here... |
