Marquis Wine Cellars is very pleased to offer you the 2008 Ribera del Duero from
Finca Villacreces, which is the big brother to the "Pruno" that you might be familiar with.
2008 Ribera del Duero DOCa - $60.00
"Dark cherry colour with a nose that is a complex and very expressive. Aromas of cocoa, creamy oak and ripe fruit blend together with hints of leather and tobacco. Delicious, elegant and extremely tasty this is a balanced wine whose complexity is provided by the blend of Tempranillo Cabernet and Merlot. Finishes with firm tannins and smokey, dark fruit. Enjoy now but it would be best to give it three years in the cellar to develop."
About the Estate
The estate of Villacreces sits between the world renowned estates of Vega Sicilia and Pingus, two of the most famous properties in Ribera del Duero if not all of Spain. The estate was owned for years by the Cuadrado family but in 2003 it was sold to the Anton family, owners of Bodegas Orben in Rioja and one of Spain's most famous Michelin starred restaurants Zaldiaran in the Basque country. Historically, the wines of Villacreces have been a compromise between the modern elements of Ribera and the classical rustic style of long ageing in older barrels. The dynamic young owners who have taken over the estate want to take the fruit from this amazing terroir in a slightly different direction, with shorter periods in oak to preserve the fruit, freshness and liveliness of the wines. "This wine from the Ribera del Duero and is imade of the selection of the best vines of low yield grown on sandy and gravel plots, located in the meander of the Duero River, in the municipality of Quintanilla de Onésimo, in the middle of Milla de Oro ("Golden Mile"), the heart of Ribera del Duero at 700 metres altitude. This wine is made of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The grapes are harvested manually in 15 kg boxes in order to subsequently go through a double-selection table: firstly, there is a manual selection of the bunches and later, a selection of the grapes using a ventilation system. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel deposits whereas the malolactic fermentation takes place in wooden vats and French oak barrels. This wine is finally aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels.
