FICAP, along with our member partners of the Concrete Coalition of Florida, supported many candidates during the 2014 election cycle. We are happy to report that all, but one of the candidates we chose to support, were successful in their respective elections. Our industry was well represented throughout the campaign season, and our support of Governor Scott did not go unnoticed. All of you should be proud of the efforts our industry put forward and the good will that we earned.

I ask that you all continue to stay involved with FICAP's committee and our political activities. We are gaining momentum legislatively, and can't afford to sit back now that the elections are over and the Concrete Masonry Education Act has been passed into law. The upcoming Concrete Days in Tallahassee are scheduled for February 17th and 18th. If you haven't attended in the past, this year would be a great time to get involved.

As the holidays approach, I can't help but think that we all have a lot to be thankful for. The economy is continuing to recover and our businesses are returning to profitability. I hope that everyone stays healthy and safe for the rest of 2014. Please join us on December 9th at the Winter Park Country Club for our Annual Christmas Dinner. It will be a great time to relax and enjoy the company our fellow industry professionals.

Renew my thoughts!

Just as our actions make or break our success....our thoughts set our course of action. Outwardly we may appear calm, peaceful, alert, while inwardly we are racked with guilt, envy, insecurity and other emotions that tear us apart. Our greatest teacher advised us to focus our thoughts on whatever is true; noble; right; pure; lovely; and admirable. Focus our thoughts. Reflect upon. In the corporate world, awareness of deceit and unscrupulous people is a necessity, but our focus and attention must remain on whatever is excellent and praiseworthy. Only then will we rise above the common and mundane and achieve the level of success for which we were created and are equipped.

True - Concrete is Florida's Resource

Noble - Concrete (Possessing outstanding qualities)

Right - The Florida Construction Industry recognizes Concrete as Florida's Resource.

Pure - Cement (it's been through the refiner's fire)

Lovely - The call for 1000 yards and 100,000 block

Admirable - Comradery among Concrete Producers

After our monthly meetings, I walk away with a renewed sense of community. I love the way our members engage one another in laughter and conversation; the response to our call for help when an issue arises that needs industry attention; participation. One of my favorite convention themes to date is FICAP Rocks when all of you decked out in rocker gear and FICAP's band shirts. I use the term a lot, but it is so right...FICAP does Rock!! Maybe the new bumper stickers for the industry...Concrete Rocks!

We certainly did all we could to help Governor Rick Scott get reelected and it worked. We have another 4 years to set things right in Florida and...Get To Work! Thank you for all you did to help make that happen.

Fannie Mae Chief Details Plan to Ease Mortgage Rules

"Today's report indicating that the FHA Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund is back in the black for the first time since 2011 is an encouraging sign as the agency seeks to grow its capital-reserve ratio to the congressionally mandated 2 percent level. Stabilizing home values, falling foreclosure rates and a firming job market should keep the fund on an upward path. With FHA premiums currently at an all-time high, FHA can help to further boost the housing recovery and reduce the cost for creditworthy borrowers by lowering its insurance fees."
