I was talking about clichés this week with a friend. It occurred to me how accurate they really are such as: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...love is blind...misery loves company and I'm sure you have some as well. Then I began to think about church messages, words and clichés like God loves you...I'll pray about it...Love the sinner but hate the sin...what would Jesus do and many more.
Although these seem true, have ever thought about this? Could it be that there is a disconnect and communication problem between the church and the people outside the church? We as Christians have THE perfect message of love to share but unfortunately people in the world hear it but don't necessarily get it. What makes a cliché ring true in our lives is not that the author got it right with his pen, but that we have experienced those words in life so we know they're true. Tragically people outside church have heard all the right words from Christians, preachers, billboards, pamphlets and so on yet have not experienced them in their own life.
Want to change the world, change their experience. How about this cliché, actions speak louder than words. Jesus was asked in the scripture Matthew 12- what are the most important things in life and He replied, "Love God with everything you have and love people as yourself". How to love people is found in Matthew 25. Jesus said to feed people, give folks a drink, befriend and cloth someone, look after and visit those in need. Nothing about words all about action, because Jesus teaches us if they experience love then they'll find love. If they experience Jesus through you, then they'll find Jesus though you!

Be the Gift is proud of our Scholarship Certificate Program. We know first hand how hard Single Moms work keeping everything going in their lives. They have big goals and plans for their future that may have been altered because of their circumstances. This Scholarship Fund started with that very vision and purpose in mind- to provide a way for single moms to make their dreams a reality.
This year, we had the privilege of helping two Single Moms as they've worked very hard toward achieving their degree. The scholarship money helped Suzanne finish her degree. She wrote these words, "I want to thank Be the Gift for
allowing me to finish my bachelors degree in August 2015. Since my graduation, I started working in a local Elementary School. I am so excited to give back to those who helped me. I am a computer teacher for K-5. I love working with the children. Finishing my degree has meant so much to me and my daughter. My daughter has been a huge support and loves playing school. Thank you for helping me fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher."
Brandee is our second recipient and wrote, "Being a single mom has brought me joy, struggles, laughter and tears, but most importantly it has brought me inspiration. My 4 year old son Ty has been my motivation to go back to school to receive my bachelors in business and become self-sufficient and provide a life that we deserve. In May I graduated with my associates degree. I thought I was going to have to end there because I didn't think I could afford CSU. When I heard that I had received the Be the Gift scholarship, I could hear God saying, 'This is not the end keep going.' Be the Gift has given me more than a scholarship for books and classes, it has also shown me that other people believe in me. I couldn't do this without the support financially and mentally from you. Thank you!"
