 Meet Susan and her family

"I am a single mother of 5 children, and a grandma raising her grandson. My two oldest daughters have moved out. My grandson has lived with me since he was about 3 months old, solely without his parents, because his dad physically abused him. My daughter was unable to protect him, and would not walk away from her husband to protect her son so the State gave custody to me. I am grateful for the decision, because otherwise my grandson would not be the healthy boy he is today.

I have been raising my kids by myself for most of their lives. My husband was in and out of our home a lot, sometimes ending up in prison, sometimes just staying out partying; and he has been gone from my kids' lives completely the past 9-10 years. He has now recently begun to reach out to be a part of our lives again, although he is still in prison for a while longer, 1-2 years.

I first found out about Be the Gift through my sister, and through some people who work with the House of Neighborly Service. I can't even put into words how much all the good people involved with Be the Gift have helped my family. Yes they came in and fixed many broken "physical" things at our house, which we were so very grateful for them doing because it's no fun living with broken things that you can't fix yourself, or can't afford to have someone come in and fix them for you. But what they did in all honesty impacted my family in so many more ways than just the physical.

You wouldn't think that fixing someone's kitchen floor, or broken doors, electrical switches, lights and ceiling fans, the plumbing, or a kitchen countertop, or fence pickets, and so much more would impact a person's life the way it did. But I have to tell you it did change the way we all look at ourselves now.

Be the Gift has helped us lift our heads up and see we are worth something to God and God's chosen people, His helpers. It truly helped our self-esteem, and our self-worth, our faith in believing who God really is and our view of people who actually may truly be telling the truth when they say they care and want to do Gods work.

Chris and Marilyn and all the great men and women who have done so much work for us have blessed us greatly! True soldiers of Christ is what I think about when I think of all of you!     Thank You, Susan and kids "

So that about sums it up. The volunteers that work with BTG have hearts of compassion and God's love to share and the very words these ladies speak and the effect on their families is exactly why we do what we do. We believe Home repair leads to Heart repair. God is so faithful to meet ALL of our needs. Please stay in touch and be blessed. Talk to you next month!!

Meet Lisa

She is the recipient of our first ever BTG

 Education Scholarship.

"I am so grateful for the scholarship that the Be the Gift Foundation has awarded me! It has been a blessing, as it has offset some of my student loans. I work so hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA. I was so excited and enormously grateful when I found out that I was the recipient of this great scholarship! It makes this hard work so worth it!

I have been going to school off and on over the last few years, paying cash for some classes and getting student loans for others. As a single mom who works full time, and
goes to school full-time, with a special-needs child, it gets tough sometimes. I can genuinely say that I am very grateful! Every bit of scholarship money I receive is that much less I'll owe in student loans.

I am going into social work. I will complete my Bachelor's of Social Work in May, 2015, and then go straight into a one-year Master's of Social Work program. It's great to know that, in less than three years, I will have my MSW! I couldn't be more excited.

Again, thanks so much for all that you do! Be the Gift is more of a gift in my life than you can begin to imagine!"
