KENYA AFRICA 2013
What an amazing trip. We visited 3 orphanages while we were there and were able to help each one. The first orphanage named Hero's of the Nation is in Nyahururu Kenya. Their mission statement is "Today's Orphans but Tomorrow's Leader's.

These children's families have been ravaged by HIV/AID's and other tragedies with no future without the help of orphanages like this one that take them in and provide for them. And this is where we all came in. We were able to help feed and educate them, buy them essential provisions, build in their orphanage and most of all--- love them. As you see by the photo that my son Andrew had the chance to go with us as well.

Andrew Johnson and the children |
There are moments and events in life that you are able to share with a family member that you'll remember forever... this was one of those adventures I'll treasure.
I mentioned several opportunities where our team was able to help these extraordinary children. Let's go more in depth. |

Letters from the Children
"The aim of this letter is to thank you for everything you have done for me. I thank you for supporting
me in school. When you are leaving us I feel sad to hear that but remember there is God who pays good you do for any person. Thank you for showing your love to us. I will never forget you- God will be blessing you. Greet all you family and may God bless the work of your hands." Carolina Wangeci.
"My History- I was born in a caring loving family of a mother and father. But in the year 2004, my mother had a fatal accident. Due to the pain she was going through, she passed away. We were left with our father who tried his best but unfortunately he felt sick in 2006. The disease made him not even to go to work, he had cancer in his stomach and no money to buy medicine. After he died, we were left desperate and lonely. We were taken to our weak old grandmother who was not able to satisfy our needs. We suffered a lot but in God's sake, there came good Samaritan who took the children in the street and brought us to Heroes orphanage. We are educated and sheltered. If not my life would be very desperate." Esther Muthoni
"My name is Gardson. I was born at Nakuru. I have one sister. In my life, I would like to be a pilot. My father had told me if he would make my dreams come true, I would be a pilot but for God's sake he passed away. I do not loose hope. God will be with me all the days of my life."

The work of our hands
We once again brought boxes of seeds and each orphanage now has a greenhouse thanks to your donations and help from churches like First UMC in Red Oak Iowa.
This house in the Mina village belongs to the grandmother of one of the children who has been living in the orphanage. We were able to rebuild her roof as well as build a bedroom. This was done for only 150 US dollars.
And yet one of our favorite purchases is replacing the worn old mattresses for the children with brand new ones. It is hard to describe the excitement in that place at that time and nothing compares to seeing the joy on their faces and know they now have a clean, bright healthy place to sleep.
So thanks to all of you for praying, financially giving and being part of the Be the Gift family.I want to encourage you and say "If you haven't seen a miracle this year yet, then join us on one of our BTG projects. Or, volunteer in your area to impact a life because you will not only see a miracle but you will Be The Miracle. Give us a call, drop us a line and and keep in touch.
Praying for each of you. Chris and Marilyn |
