This spring Madison lettered in Track for jumping events and received the coach's award.  She excelled in triple jump, winning multiple meets and Napa County Track championships.   Madison volunteers as an AVID Tutor and Student Leader Mentor.  She spearheaded multiple community service projects as vice president of Napa High Interact Club.  She's also active in California Scholastic Federation (Life Member) and the Best Buddies Club.  For her senior project she completed open water scuba certification with dives in Monterey Bay. Max has decided to attend Cornell University this fall, after being accepted to many schools. He will likely study business and life sciences, but also plans to pursue other areas of interest. He is looking forward to living on the east coast and exploring the many opportunities Cornell offers and hopes to study abroad during his time in college. He is also considering playing on the golf team at Cornell. He is a great kid, terrific brother and good friend and will be missed here at home. Max's time at BOS (he started in 2002 when the school opened and he was in 2nd grade) played a strong hand in his success in high school. Even though the J-S curriculum and philosophy are quite traditional, Max loves to learn, explore new things and enjoy life at the same time, and he brought this passion with him to his high school years.
Class of 2009Daniel WongDaniel Wong is looking forward to attending Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles this fall.
Class of 2010Alexander AckermanAlex Ackerman is looking forward to his senior year at Justin-Siena High School this fall, as he wraps up his junior year with flying colors (literally!). He is still creating lots of new projects both at school and at home -- his current engineering projects include making different sizes of lasers with which to conduct various experiments. Earlier this spring, he visited Harvey Mudd College in Southern California, as well as UC Santa Barbara where he got to meet the Professor there who was the creator of the "String Theory" in physics. He also visited MIT and Princeton back in the Boston area where he loved seeing all the cool supercomputers they had at MIT. Alex's major accomplishment this year so far was to earn his pilot's permit by logging almost 50 hours of flight time and taking his first solo flight in early May -- a major achievement for him! He is currently planning a cross country flight with his instructor, and should receive his full pilot's license by the end of this year. He is still playing guitar, and also now tutors a 7th grade student in preparation for the upcoming SSATs.  All in all, Alex is having a great year and looks forward to finally being a senior at Justin-Siena in August.
Class of 2010Isabella EmmerichBella has been busy this semester, juggling school, college classes, and work at BOS lower school. She is very involved in school, and was promoted to be a student peer counselor at New Tech. She has painted a permanent mural on the walls of New Tech. She also picked out her top two colleges while on an East Coast college tour - MICA and RISD. She is vigorously working to make her applications as great as possible for next year. Bella recently got accepted with a merit scholarship to the School of Art Institute of Chicago, and will be attending college there over the summer. She is currently wrapping up a two-person mixed media art show at the Napa Valley Play House, and hopes to be in another show soon. Bella is also looking forward to her senior year at New Tech High and cannot wait to apply to colleges and start the next chapter of her life.
Class of 2010Brittany WongBrittany Wong is a Junior at the College Preparatory School. School and music have especially been keeping her busy this past year! Her favorite course this year was probably calculus, and she was a Team Member for the American Mathematics Competition 12. She completed the Advanced Level of Certificate of Merit for piano, and was selected to perform a flute sonata in the Junior Bach Festival. Brittany is still a principal flutist in the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, and loved visiting and performing in Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague last summer on the NVYS tour. In March she became the Distinguished Young Woman of Napa Valley, and will be travelling to the state competition in July.
Class of 2011Isabel JenningsIsabel received the top leadership award for the sophomore class at Justin-Siena, and continues as a very strong athlete. She has been named Napa athlete of the week by Family Drug, she won the North Coast Sectional in the long jump, and was part of the winning relay team for the 4x400 meter race, played varsity basketball, and on the varsity track team, and broke a 36-year-old J-S record for long jump by an inch with a 17'10.5" jump. She is currently ranked Number 1 in Marin County Athletic League in the long jump. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Isabel has maintained a 4.5 GPA and received awards in academic excellence for Spanish, for straight A's, and for having among the highest GPAs in her class.
Class of 2011Chauncey JohnsonChauncey is a sophomore at Sonoma Academy, and loves it. He has been on the cross-country team for two years, winning the "Cross-Country Coaches Award" for their 2012 season. He has also played on the junior varsity basketball team for two years, and was named "MVP" for their first tournament, played in December. For his 2012 Intersession, Sonoma Academy's two-week immersion program, Chauncey traveled with a group to China, and this year, he studied for and obtained his "Emergency First Responder" certification. This was followed by his obtaining his "Rescue Diver" certification during Spring Break. His goal is to become a "Dive Master" once he turns 18. While he was doing these activities, he obtained his driver's license and plans on enjoying his '66 Ford Mustang! He has spent the last 18 months refurbishing the car's interior, having it painted and upgrading the sound system. He worked as a "ranch hand" in Wyoming last summer, and plans to work there again this summer. He also snowboards as much as he can, loves BMX biking in his free time, and enjoys all the other activities available in Santa Rosa.
Class of 2012Sam SheekeySam is attending Justin-Siena High School and loves his decision to spend his high school years there. In both semesters he has made the honor roll, which he accredits to hard work and a good Blue Oak foundation. He joined his fellow Blue Oak graduates at the JS academic awards night where many were recognized for their efforts in the classroom. Sam is swimming for the Justin swim team, in order to condition for water polo. Over spring break his water polo team had the opportunity to take a training trip to Italy where they played with many current and past professional water polo players. This summer the team will travel to Southern California for the water polo Junior Olympics. In addition to water polo and swim, Sam played basketball in the winter and looks forward to playing once again in the summer . Sam says, "Joining me in trying this new sport and all my high school adventures is my best friend and BOS brother Sam Thatcher. Blue Oak relationships never do end!"
Class of 2012Samuel ThatcherSam has found the transition from Blue Oak School to Justin-Siena quite smooth. He loves his new school. Academically, socially and in sports - all is going great!! The Freshman have a dedicated area and his friends from Blue Oak remain close. BOS alums have all succeeded in their own ways and still cheer each other on. Sam has found that he and fellow BOS alum, Sam Sheekey, have strong skills in water polo, and both had the opportunity to travel with the team to Italy. Sam's future plans are to continue to succeed in academics and sports, and find his perfect university. Sam says, "Thanks, Blue Oak, for preparing me so well!!!"
