To my NWPC LA Westside Members & Supporters:
Thank you for joining us on December 18th for our annual Holiday Party. We send a tremendous THANK YOU to Jackie Lacey for her inspiring remarks, to Nancy Krasne for allowing us the use of her beautiful home, and we thank our own Robyn Ritter Simon for her Sponsorship of the event.I hope you enjoy the event photographs, taken by Michele Gottlieb. I hope will consider becoming a member of our caucus or renewing your current membership!I wanted to take a moment to say what an incredible honor it has been to serve as President of NWPC LA Westside for the last 3+ years.
We are all a part of this organization because we understand the value of having equal representation in politics. Without women at the table, in less than two years, we saw more than 1,100 anti-women's health bills introduced across the country. We saw our lawmakers trying to redefine rape, and unwilling to reauthorize a comprehensive Violence Against Women Act. And, we saw a candidate for President determined to limit our reproductive choices.
But: women never give up! In response to these attacks, we elected a record number of women in the Congress and Senate, and protected our right to choose. Here in California,
we saw the only piece of proactive women's health legislation signed into law, authored by LA Westside's very own Holly Mitchell. And, we helped elected our first woman to serve as District Attorney of Los Angeles.
Of course, there is much more work to be done. Right here in Los Angeles, the second largest city in the country, we only have one woman serving on our City Council. We all know how difficult it is to find women to run for public office, but NWPC is uniquely qualified to help recruit, train, support and elect women to who are willing to take the risk. And that is why I have been so proud to serve as President of this organization.
I thank all of the Board Members who have served with me, and who will continue to serve in the coming two years on our
new board for 2013-2015. I thank all of you, members and supporters of this organization; without you, our critical work would not be possible.
Again, I thank you all so much for all you do to help achieve full equality in politics--
Lindsay Bubar President June 2008 - December 2012
