Here's what you need to know
Tablets are great supplements to a laptop. They are not great replacements for a laptop.
It will definitely help your "cool factor". It's lighter than a laptop. You can use Word and other Office programs. It's great for traveling and for students to take to class .
By the time you buy the tablet and the keyboard, you are are spending between $450 and $500. You can get a decent laptop for that much money. A Surface tablet only has a 32 to 64GB hard drive A laptop usually has a hard drive that is 10 times bigger. A standard laptop now comes with a 500-750GB hard drive. If you plan on loading it up with music, pictures and videos, the Surface is not going to cut it.
When the tablet breaks... it's over. it's literally glued together. There's no unscrewing and replacing parts or upgrading memory.
