E-books and E-readers - Still Confused?

Amigos has pulled all our e-reader and e-book courses into a single category called "E-books & E-readers," to make them easier to find in our catalog. In addition, each course description links to other related courses.

Here is a list of all the courses, both existing and new, now in this category:

Learn the Basic Concepts of Interlibrary Loan in ILL101

Have you ever wondered why interlibrary loan works the way it does? Are you new to ILL and asking yourself how what you do fits into the Big Picture? ILL101: Basic Concepts of Interlibrary Loan, a new Amigos training session that will debut in April 2013, tries to answer these and other questions you might have about the basic ideas and processes behind software and systems like OCLC's WorldShare ILL, ILLiad, and other ILL management systems. Specific topics will include codes and policies, standard workflows and their rationales, common pitfalls, and record-keeping best practices for both Borrowing and Lending. Details and online registration are available on the Amigos website.

Reference and Information Services Scheduled

Need an introduction to or refresher on reference services? Then this class is for you. Reference and Information Services will introduce you to key concepts and tools necessary in information access and delivery.

Upon completing this class, you will be knowledgeable about the application of core reference principles and information technologies as they relate to daily activities of library and information providers. This course also explores and analyzes real-world reference issues as they pertain to resource selection, user privacy, and confidentiality.

Reference and Information Services meets four times: April 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. CDT each day.

This in-depth class meets the requirements for American Library Association Library Support Staff Certification [ALA-LSSC] for the Reference and Information Services elective.

Upcoming Know & Go Sessions

Amigos is offering two informative Know & Go sessions in the coming weeks: BibFrame, and Catching Up with Technology.

BibFrame is scheduled for March 25 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. CDT. Join Bill Walker, Imaging Field Services Officer, for this hour-long session to learn about the Bibliographic Framework Initiative, known as BibFrame. Catching Up with Technology is scheduled for April 8 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. CDT.
