Health Insurance Has Gone to the Dogs (and Cats)

Two years ago for Christmas my darling Jack Russell Terrier gave me the most thoughtful gift of all.....she tore her ACL; which required an advanced orthopedic procedure to fix. Unexpected? Yes! Costly? Yes! (Even with a professional discount from the surgery center!).

I would be willing to bet that something similar has happened to you or even a friend or family member. In the Atlanta area a trip to the local ER can cost $500-$1500. An extended stay in the hospital or an emergency surgery can be $4000-$6000. Costs can reach upwards of $10,000 at referral hospitals and universities. What can you do about unexpected, costly veterinary bills? Pet health insurance is an avenue that is becoming more popular in the United States to help soften the blow if an incident occurs. In Europe around 20% of the pet population has insurance, while in the US the number is somewhere around 5%. Is pet health insurance right for you and your 4 legged family members?

End of Year Giving

Most of us want to be in a financial position to do more for those who need our support. Our government's tax laws offer incentives that encourage support of the works and dreams of organizations and institutions that are making a difference in the world. Through careful planning, a year-end gift can allow you to do more for others than you may have anticipated and still improve your own position, both today and tomorrow.

A gift to us provides you with a feeling of personal satisfaction

and demonstrates your belief in our mission. It may also result

in a more tangible return-in the form of desirable tax benefits.

Charitable contribution deductions on your current income tax

return and capital gains tax savings are of foremost benefit.

Future estate tax savings may also result from your gift.

LLCC is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity corporation. Your contributions help us to continue to improve the quality of life in the greater LLCC community (Lindridge-Martin Manor, LaVista Park, Woodland Hills, Cheshire Bridge, Briar Vista and Zonolite).

National Registry Nomination for Lindridge Martin Manor

Earlier this year, Lindridge Martin Manor finalized the mapping and physical description and revision from the State Historic Preservation Office and sent the nomination off in March of 2013.

The documents were deferred in delay primarily due to staff reductions.

The neighborhood is up for nomination as stipulation of the MOA for GDOT SR-400 Project. The neighborhood is approximately 122 acres and includes the concentration of contiguous historic properties that together are LMMNA. A historic building is a building that is over 50 years old. This district is made up of 4 subdivision that were platted in the late 1940's into the 1950's. (Martin Manor, Lindridge, Flecher Magbee and Armand). Prior to the 1940 the neighborhood was part of the Cheshire Farm, which was settled in 1838 by Captain Hezekiah Cheshire. There are two homes in the area, 2274 Malante Drive and 928 Lindbergh Drive, date to this early subdivision of the land by the Cheshire family. These homes were later incorporated into the lot layout of Martin Manor and Lindridge. Local advertisement in March of 1900 described the area as the "most desirable property in Fulton County."

At the end of January the National Register will run an article in the AJC, some of the smaller newsletters, and notifying the relevant elected officials to a public meeting. This meeting will take place at the February 5, 2014 LMMNA general assembly.

Patrick Baldwin, Attorney with the law firm Jones Day, pro bono attorney for the new organization, is preparing the documents to apply for 501(c)(3) status from the Federal Government.

The bylaws of the new foundation state that its mission is the "...preservation of the rich heritage of the Piedmont Heights neighborhood, the enhancement of its physical assets and the betterment of its common welfare."
