Summer is finally here! :) Although I think most of us here in Northeast Wisconsin never thought it would arrive, but it finally has! While this week's forecast looks to be in the low to mid-70s, it won't be long until we are looking at high 80s and 90s and that humidity that we all love so much! Last week, I received an email asking if I would share a warning regarding leaving children and pets in a vehicle during the summer months. As we all hear on the news or read in the papers, it happens much more often than any of us can fathom. So, today I thought I would go ahead and extend that reminder.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a child dies from heatstroke once every 10 days from being left in a hot vehicle. It's the leading cause of non-crash fatalities for kids 14 and younger, but there are ways to prevent something like that from happening and being charged for it.

Authorities advise you to do things such as, if you have a purse, put it in the seat with the child or let the child hold it, so you remember to bring your child along with your purse.

The same precautions should apply to your pets. According to the ASPCA, it only takes 10 minutes for the inside of a car to reach 102 degrees in 85 degree weather. They say the best thing to do is take your pet with you or leave them at home. The temperature rises very rapidly whether or not you have the windows open. Dogs have a hard time in regulating their body heat and even short periods of time in a hot car can be extremely dangerous for them.

Police ask people to keep an eye out for children or animals left in vehicles on hot days and to call 911 if they think the occupant is in danger. Don't wait to do this if you feel that the child or animal could be in danger. Every minute that is crucial when the weather is scorching.

Have a wonderful week!

Praying the Abbey Windows

Praying the Abbey Windows
The renowned stained glass windows of St. Norbert Abbey, composed of mouth-blown glass from Germany, are filled with sacred and symbolic images of the Old Testament, moments in the life of Jesus, the Liturgy of the Mass, and the Liturgy of the Hours. Inspirational guidebooks, compiled by Fr. Stephen Rossey, O. Praem., offer image descriptions, meditative prayers, Scripture passages, and reflection questions for each window.

Taking advantage of the longest days of the year, the series is being offered Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. on June 11, 18, and 25. A brief history of the windows and description of the glass-blowing technique will be offered at the first session. With guide-book in hand, retreatants spend the rest of the evening reflecting, at their own pace, on the windows and the sacred messages within.

Path to Leadership at De Pere at Dawn

De Pere's Premier Morning Networking Event Goes Personal! The Personal "Path to Leadership" that is!Are you are an emerging, high potential or mid-level leader from any private, public, or not-for-profit organization wishing to understand and enhance your personal leadership style so that you can improve your overall performance? Are you a business owner or manager with promising staff?  Many business owners and managers give little thought to staff education. They do not think it is part of their role, or if they do, they never have time to get around to it or have a "large enough" budget for it.  If you have not given staff development much thought or think it does not affect your practice or patients, this article is for you. You have an important role in staff development: establishing its priority, encouraging it by example, and supporting it in your attitude and budget. The truth is that if staff education and development are not a priority for the owners and managers, they will not be a priority for anyone under them.

The DPACC Summer Path to Leadership Series presented by Wisconsin Public Service is a cost-effective, time-respectful program. 90 minutes a month for 2 months and early in the day to interfere very little with your business day.  2 topics will be covered each month.
