Greetings!

This week at Dawn the panel will be covering Maintaining Momentum and Time Management. I don't know about you but I am always looking for ideas of how to manage my time throughout the week more efficiently so that I can get the most done. This is what I have found that works best.
  1.  Make To-Do Lists: Lists keep your organized, keep you on track, and keep you aware of where you are and what still needs to be done.
  2. Prioritize:  Lists are great but if you don't prioritize, those lists they can be a significant source of stress for you.  Start with listing the things first that have to get done and then list the ones that are less essential.
  3. Set Goals: It's good to have a list but you should also budget time for each item on that list.  By setting goals for what you need to get done before lunch, before leaving for the day, or by the end of the month, you know how fast you have to work and how much time should be spent on each project.
  4. Track Your Time:  It's amazing how fast time gets sucked away by simple things like checking email or looking for a pen that actually works. That's why it's important to track your time.   Once you've done so for a couple of days, you'll get a feel for when you're spending your time appropriately on goal-oriented activities and when you're simply wasting it on non-productive things.  The next step is to weed the latter out.
  5. Don't Even Attempt to Multitask:  Stay focused on one thing and one thing only, and only move on to the next task when the first one is complete. It takes a crazy amount of time switching back and forth between tasks, and more often than not you will lose your train of thought on what you were doing on one task, that will cause you more time.
  6. Minimize Distraction: Shut the door, turn off your cell, and stay away from social media and other Internet distractions. Most importantly, when you really need to get stuff done, let everyone know that you will not be available for anything, unless it is an emergency, for a certain amount of time, that way you can avoid people knocking at your door to ask questions.
  7. Delegate Responsibilities: Having another responsible person take over some of your tasks is like getting twice as much done in the same amount of time.  The key to delegation is picking the right person.  You want somebody who has the skills to get the task done, that way you aren't worrying about if you should have handed that task off or not.
  8. Give Yourself Rest Period:
It is simple as that! Have a coffee break or step out to lunch or for a walk. You will burn yourself out if you keep at it every minute of every day.
  9. Plan For Tomorrow Today: Use the last 10 or 20 minutes of the day to plan at least the first part of tomorrow.  This will let you start the new day with momentum.

I hope that these tips help you improve your time management during your work week! I am still working on them but I try my best!
Have a wonderful week!

Alicia
