Community News

In today's mobile working environment, it's uncommon that everyone working on a particular project is in the same building. Mobility does not have to mean extra challenges and working with your team does not have to stop when you leave your desk. There are a number of web-based collaboration apps that let you stay organized whether you're at your desk, on your smartphone or using your tablet. View full news release here.

Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS), a subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group, Inc. (NYSE:TEG), has chosen the Fox Energy Center near Wrightstown, WI as the preferred site for an approximately 500-megawatt natural gas combined cycle generating unit, if building a generating unit is the best overall option for meeting future customer needs. Previously, WPS announced that it forecasts a need for additional energy and capacity beginning in 2019. Its options to meet that need include buying the power from another supplier or adding another generating unit. Since the lead time to build a unit is several years, WPS must make the decision by the middle of 2014. Fox Energy Center was selected as the preferred site on the basis of feasibility studies by the MidContinent Independent System Operator, which manages the electric grid in this region, proximity to natural gas pipelines, as well as other factors. Save the De Pere Cinema - Help Us Go Digital in De Pere!

Mike and Vicki Radue have owned the De Pere Cinema for over a decade, but an industry change may force them to close the doors on the historic, one-screen theatre in downtown De Pere early next year.

Beginning as early as spring of 2014, Hollywood's producers will no longer issue movies in 35mm film, offering only digital film for new releases - at a much less expensive one-tenth of the cost.  While large multi-screen theatres have already switched to the necessary digital projectors, the cost of making the switch may be the final curtain call for many small, local theatres across the country.  Digital projectors can cost upwards of $70,000 - and often require bank financing for smaller theatres.

The De Pere Cinema - an iconic institution on historic George Street in downtown De Pere is a local favorite for $2 Tuesday movies, Packer games, birthday parties, and intermediate run films. With ticket prices averaging under $5, inexpensive snacks and beverages, and a constantly changing range of films, the De Pere Cinema has long been a favorite for De Pere area families, St. Norbert College students, and community members.  Now they need our help to keep their doors open.

From now through the 24th of Janaury, De Pere Cinema hopes to raise $40,000 to cover the costs of switching to a digital projector.  The Radue family has formed a Kickstarter page (a popular crowd-funding mechanism) in order to raise pledges. Kickstarter allows individual donors to make pledges through Amazon payments (thereby not sharing personal payment information) - and pledges are not charged unless the full funding goal is met. If you donate today to the De Pere Cinema Kickstarter and $40,000 is not raised by January 24th - you will not be charged.

However, we are hopeful that the excellent rewards that De Pere Cinema is generously offering will spark interest in donations over the coming month. Donations as little as $1 are welcomed, but generous sponsorship packages are available from $10 to $1,000 with varying movie packages and advertising opportunities.

The clock is ticking on this opportunity - in the first week of this drive, over 75 backers have pledged just over $3,500 toward this cause - word being spread solely through social media.  We hope that we can see that number increase exponentially before the January 24th deadline!
