November 18th, 2013                                                                                Issue # 6- 13
Greetings!

Did you know that there is no proof that turkey was what the Pilgrims ate back in 1621 when the first Thanksgiving took place?

When the pilgrims arrived in America in the 1600's, they found wild turkeys, which resembled the large birds that they had been breeding in Europe. The abundant turkey population became a major food source as the pilgrims searched the new land for food. Although there is no direct evidence that turkeys were served as part of the original Thanksgiving Day celebration, they were a major food source for both Native Americans and the Pilgrims so it is thought that turkeys may have been included on that day in 1621.

It is unclear when turkeys became the undisputed symbol of Thanksgiving Day, but over the last century, the two have become inseparable. Thanksgiving has even earned the unofficial nickname Turkey Day by the American public.

Do you have your turkey ready for next week and all your plans set for next week? Stay tuned to our Live Healthy Brown County e-newsletter this Wednesday and next Wednesday for some yummy turkey dishes!! :)

Have a wonderful week!!

Oley's Pepperoni Cannoli is a new family owned restaurant in east De Pere near De Pere High School. They pride themselves on using local products as much as possible. During the spring through fall they partner with local Green Bay area farmers such at Kellner Gardens (Denmark, WI) where they specialize in naturally grown produce and farm range poultry. During the winter they look for organic suppliers. They use Norsk Farm (Lena, WI) for quality grass-fed meats, including ham, beef steak, ground beef, and Canadian bacon. They also have for sale grass-fed and organic meats raised and processed locally. Their bread is made fresh daily by Uncle Mike's Bakery (De Pere and Suamico) exclusively for them. They partner with Grande Cheese Company (Brownsville, WI) for their cheese. They provide them with the cheeses that they feature in their pizzas, cannolis, and sandwiches.

Oley's uses a time-tested stone lined oven to bake their pizzas and pride themselves in preparing your food from start to finish without the use of a microwave oven. Rather than having a large menu, they focus on a small menu of choices that they can deliver to you consistently with high quality and prompt service.

Oley's is located at 586 Redbird Circle. They are open Monday-Thursday from 10:30am-8pm and Friday-Saturday from 10:30am-9pm, they are closed on Sundays.

Join us and the Ambassadors at a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at Oley's Pepperoni Cannoli this Wednesday, November 20th at 4:30 and continuing to 6:30pm to welcome them to the community!!! Also be sure to check out their website: www.opcpizza.com.

As 79 million Baby Boomers near and enter their retirement years, they will encounter a unique set of challenges unlike those any previous generation has faced. These challenges - including changes in employee benefits, longer life spans, uncertainty with Social Security and Medicare have made preparing for retirement more difficult and could put their future financial security at risk. In response to the challenge, PAi is joined a national effort to promote retirement planning called "National Save for Retirement Week." Occurring October 20 through October 26, National Save for Retirement Week was the first congressionally endorsed, national event formally calling on employers to promote the benefits of saving for retirement, and encourage their employees to take full advantage of employer-sponsored plans.
