Final Tips for Race Weekend

Please review the items below to ensure a successful and safe Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon!

  • If you haven't yet, please read all of our past newsletters. They contain vital information about various elements of the event weekend and race. CLICK HERE
  • Please view our short informational videos online. These are extremely helpful and offer some great insider tips for the race. CLICK HERE
  • If you are new to this race or have some burning questions, please remember to join us at Sports Basement for our Escape Academy Info Sessions Thursday and Friday, February 28 and March 1 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Sports Basement, 610 Old Mason Street, The Presidio
  • For those of you that want to get a feel for the swim course prior to the race, Water World Swim is offering Escape from Alcatraz swim clinics on Friday and Saturday at 7:00AM at a discounted rate. If you are interested, please visit:http://waterworldswim.com/alcatraz.html

  • Packet pick up is from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Saturday at Marina Green. Each individual including each member of relay teams must pick up his or her own packet. This is a USAT rule.
  • Each participant must also attend at least one mandatory athlete meeting. These take place at 1 PM and 5 PM at the Marina Green Festival Stage.
  • We will collect SWIM EXIT bag on Saturday during packet pick up. Please bring a secondary pair of running shoes, a small towel, and any other small item(s) you may want for the 1/2 mile run from swim exit to transition.  We will provide the bag for these items during packet pick up.
  • You will rack your bike on Sunday morning from 4 AM to 6 AM. Shuttles will depart during this time for Pier 3 where you will board the boat for the swim.  The last shuttle will leave at 6 AM even if you are standing just 5 feet from it. If you are not on the shuttle by 6 AM, you will be left behind. There are no refunds for missing the shuttle. Our advice is to not plan on the last shuttle because it will have limited room. It won't work if 200 people try to board one shuttle bus at the last minute.
  • The boat will depart from Pier 3 at exactly 6:30 AM. If you are not on board by 6:30 AM, you will be left behind. There are no refunds for those who miss the boat.
  • There will be portable toilets at Pier 3.
  • The race will start at 7:30 AM. All 2000 participants will exit the boat in 6 minutes. Be ready to jump as there is no time for getting scared and taking your time to jump.
  • If you need assistance on the swim and take a minute to hold on to a kayak, there is no penalty. If you are repositioned by our race staff or swim safety personnel, there is no penalty.  If you do NOT listen to race staff and swim safety personnel, you will be disqualified.
  • The swim cut off is 1 hour. If you do not make the swim cut off, you will be picked up and taken to land where you WILL be able to continue on in the race.
  • Be mindful in transition and on the bike course of your fellow participants, of non-participants enjoying the Sunday morning, and of your volunteers. This race is for all to have a great time so let's help make that happen for everyone involved.
  • The bike cut off is 10:30 AM. If you do not make the bike cut off, you will be picked up and taken to the end of the bike course where you WILL be able to continue on in the race.
  • The run course has some narrow two-way sections. Be mindful in transition and on the bike course of your fellow participants, of non-participants enjoying the Sunday morning, and of your volunteers. This race is for all to have a great time so let's help make that happen for everyone involved.
  • When you finish, you will receive a finisher's medal, some water, return your timing chip and move into the Athlete Pavilion. Here you will find medical assistance, massage therapy, changing tents, a hearty post-race meal, and the Muscle Milk Recovery Zone.  Please enjoy as you will have earned it!
  • Race results will be available in several ways: 1) Online on our website 2) At the digital results zone located in the Fitness Festival 3) Through our Mobile App and 4) Through a Facebook App. Details to come through our website, facebook page, and email blast.
  • Photos will be available through MarathonFoto. CLICK HERE
