Seasons Greetings
Spring and Summer 2015
In This Issue

Spring is turning into summer here in the Body Temple Studio and we are as busy as ever. The 2015 Club Members have each had at least two recurring sessions and there have been plenty of takers for the single sessions that come up as members decrease their schedule frequency or go on vacation.

Schedule Updates

Even if you are not a club member, it turns out that YOU ARE LUCKY and there are often single sessions available on Genbook. Please don't be discouraged if you check Genbook and you find that "service is not available" when you click on a service. If you check back the next day, you may find that someone has cancelled a spot JUST FOR YOU. So please CHECK GENBOOK OFTEN  if you would like to have a session with Liz.

That said, we are quite busy with a mostly filled schedule 12 weeks out. Tyler is growing big and strong; he turned 2 years old in February! Dan is Super Dad keeping our family fed, healthy, AND helping in the studio or behind the scenes. We are so grateful for you, Friends of Body Temple for supporting our small business and family.

Those of you who have been in the studio lately know that Liz has been excited about current pain research. Scroll down below to read some summaries and watch a few videos yourself:

Using Food as Medicine for Musculo-skeletal disorders.

Yes, even the CA PT Association is on board with trying food to combat chronic inflammation. Read their summary and start eating to reduce your inflammation and chronic pain today:

Use your breath to help with chronic pain:

Current research is confirming that core strength and stability is dynamic and...wait for it, we have to
breathe when we move, and, finally, we can use conscious breathing to relieve pain, stress, and anxiety. It really works! The mechanism is the nerve pathway between the Respiratory Diaphragm Muscle and the Autonomic Nervous System. But you don't have to understand the science to benefit from it.
Just ask the clients that have returned to their previous physical activities with no pain and better agility! We have been employing this concept at the Body Temple since we opened and, finally, the neuro-endocrine research is showing us why.

What does our breath and spirit have to do with our chronic pain?

Matthew Taylor is a Physical Therapist in Arizona, who recommends all of his clients watch this video before their initial evaluation. We humbly think it is worth your time, too. (Notice: Matt has updated his graphics since April 2015- even if you have already seen it, we hope you watch it again.)

Another PT colleague, Julie Wiebe, demonstrates
I use thera-band and our small skeleton, Slim, to demonstrate this concept, Julie uses a balloon and it is much more elegant!

Fellow PT and Professional Yoga Therapy Guru, Ginger Garner PT ATC PYT, gathers these articles and summarizes more in her article about the Amazing Diaphragm: How Your Breathing Predicts Your Health

And finally, a public service video from Australia about chronic pain, and what we can do about it. Or, if you need an article that is a little more peer-reviewed, here a nice link regarding chronic pain and its association with the body-mind (brain) connection.

Take a deep breath and enjoy one, or all, of these videos right now!

What is the 2015 Club and how can I join?

Last year, about this time, we at the Body Temple discovered that the online sessions that were offered, were all booked up. In an effort to get more people in, we implemented the 2015 Club. Membership was automatic to those who scheduled a regular, recurring, appointment time and day. There are currently 60 club members and the program is running smoothly.

If you are interested in securing a regular, repeating, appointment day and time, please email Liz and ask to be on the list.

How can I manage my own appointments on Genbook?

Having Difficulty Cancelling or Scheduling online?

Here are some tips to help you out:

1. SAVE your email confirmations from Genbook. They contain your unique link to cancel existing appointments. Follow the instructions in the link to create a login name and password (remember your password, I do not have any access to your private account information).

2. Click "Confirm".  Follow the directions on the screen to make an online appointment:
A. Select a service (Initial Evaluation, 90 minutes, or 60 minutes).

B. Choose a date and time (available dates and times are shown in blue).

C. Enter your name, email address, and phone number.  Click "continue".

D. Click "Confirm Appointment". You will see a green line appear that says:

"Booking successful. A confirmation has been sent to your email."

3. If you have a regular, recurring, time slot (Club Members) which we have scheduled for you, YOU MAY NOW LOGIN AND MANAGE THOSE SESSIONS YOURSELF. If you have not created a login and password with Genbook, please do so to manage your own sessions.

Thank you! The less time we spend on office manager details, the more time we can spend teaching you how to heal yourself.

PS: Did Gmail put this email where you want it?

As you may know, Gmail recently rolled out a newly designed inbox. If you've been using the new design, you also know your emails are now being sorted into three tabs - Primary, Social, and Promotions - with two additional tabs, Updates and Forums, available from the Configure inbox section of your Gmail Settings.

You may also have noticed that Body Temple PT emails, maybe even this one, now appear in your Promotions or Updates tab. If you'd rather the emails we send end up in your Primary tab it's simple to tell Gmail where these emails should go.

Here's how:

*Drag and drop my email into your Primary tab and click "yes" when Gmail asks if you'd like future messages from this email address to go to your Primary tab.

That's it!
