The New Jersey Real Estate Commission (REC) has released the following information regarding the continuing education and license renewal cycle:
All real estate licenses from the previous license term expired on June 30, 2013.Any licensee who failed to complete 12 CE credits and to renew for the next license term may not conduct business in real estate until they have met these requirements.
The Real Estate Commission has granted extensions to complete CE requirements and license renewals for individuals who failed to renew by June 30. The deadline extensions do not extend the 2011-13 license term, and they do not extend or abbreviate the 2013-15 license term. Individuals who have not yet completed their CE credits have until July 15, 2013 and are required to pay a $200 late CE fee. They may renew their licenses until July 15, 2013 with no late renewal fee.
Between July 16 and July 31, 2013, individuals who have completed their 12 CE credits may continue to renew their licenses and will be required to pay a late license renewal fee in addition to the late CE fee of $200. For salespersons and broker-salespersons, the late renewal fee is $20; for brokers, corporate entities and partnerships, this fee is $40.
Beginning Aug. 1, anyone who failed to renew their license may apply to reinstate the license and will be required to complete 12 CE credits.

Call for Action: Tax Reform Should Do No Harm
Just before the July 4th recess, Sens. Max Baucus (D-MT) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, announced their plans for tax reform legislation in the Senate. This legislation, to be marked up this fall, would start with a "blank slate." What this means is that as a starting point, all tax expenditures will be removed from the tax code.
Senators will have to request expenditures to be added to the reform legislation. Each Senator has until July 26 to submit requests, in writing, for any expenditures they would like to see kept in the code. The legislation will then be drafted during the August recess.
The National Association of REALTORS® has launched an all member Call for Action (CFA) asking REALTORS® to contact their Senators to ensure that the wide range of provisions in the tax code that affect residential, commercial and investment real estate are protected.
Please be on the lookout for this important CFA, and the opportunity to ensure that the Senate hears loud and clear from REALTORS®. More information about the "blank slate" can be found by clicking here.
