Meet Your 2013 President - Edward Thor 
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: Professionalism is knowing how to do it - when to do it - and doing it with competency, fairness, and high integrity in recognition and appreciation of our obligations to clients, customers, the public, and each other. Professionalism is more than saying it or writing it. Being professional IS continuously striving to become and remaining informed on issues affecting real estate and, as knowledgeable professionals, willingly share the fruit of their experience and study with others.
In order for us to make 2013 a Professional, Purposeful and Profitable year, I need your support, and those of your co-workers and the REALTOR ® family throughout Northern New Jersey. Get to know RealSource and its members, its affiliates and real estate consumers throughout Northern New Jersey. We are here for you - and your input and support is needed if we are to meet and exceed the needs of our members, the marketplace, and the economy as a whole.
Join us. Be a part of our team. Volunteer to serve on a committee. My promise - and the entire leadership team - is to recognize that your career, the time put into your business and our association - and your money earned is valuable. We will respect and support that throughout the year.
We all work very, very hard for the commissions we earn, don't you think? In promoting professionalism, we need the public to understand the value we bring to the transaction - and the long hours we devote to completing a transaction and maintaining a marketplace for consumers to buy, own and transfer real estate - the respect will follow. BUT... we can't we expect the public to respect us if we don't respect each other. We need to work together to provide a smooth transaction, and that is how we will be viewed as Professionals and earn the respect due us. Remember the "Golden Rule" - "Do unto others as you would have them done unto you."
Hundreds of professionals - and tens of thousands of people hours - have culminated into today's RealSource Association. While we celebrate the history, and honor and admire the work accomplished, we must not and will not rest on our laurels. Together, with your support, we can ensure that the RealSource Association remains relevant in the hearts and minds of our membership and the customers and clients they serve. This is ultimately the reason why I volunteered to serve years ago and why I have agreed to serve as your President.
Together, join me, and let's get ready for the challenge of promoting professionalism in real estate and the rewards of the RealSource Association and Northern New Jersey.

Extension Notice: Dues Relief Applications Due February 8
If you have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy, there is still time to fill out a dues waiver application.
Extension Notice: REALTORS® Relief Foundation Application Due February 15
(This is a different application from the above Dues Waiver)
In addition to filling out the dues waiver, you may wish to fill out the application for relief assistance. This program is for qualified applicants (up to $1,500) towards either :
1. Monthly mortgage expense for their primary residence that was damaged by Hurricane Sandy or;
2. Cost of temporary shelter due to displacement from the primary residence resulting from the storm.

Call for Presentations for Triple Play
Applications are now being accepted for speakers for the Triple Play 2013 REALTOR® Convention & Trade Expo. This year's event will be held December 10-12, 2013 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Education sessions for Triple Play 2013 are categorized into eight tracks: appraisal, association executive, brokerage/management, commercial, legal/tax/environmental, professional development, sales & marketing and technology.
Complete information and application forms for the Call for Presentation process are available at the Triple Play website. Submission deadline is March 15, 2013.

About This Course: Designed to assist agents in recognizing more subtle forms of discriminating, this course identifies the federally protected classes and explores in some depth the NJ Law Against Discrimination. Best practices to avoid will be identified as well as a discussion of advertising and marketing guidelines.
This class is on the same day as Procuring Cause: 9 Factors to Consider - so if you're already signed up for Procuring Cause, you may want to consider signing up for this class as well and stay at RealSource for the whole day!

For those of you who don't know Tom Austin he is a long time RealSource member who currently serves on the Board of Directors as an alternate and is the broker/owner of Thomas Austin Real Estate...but that's not all. Have You Ever Thought of Using Facebook Ads?
If you've logged on to Facebook lately, you'll notice a stream of ads that appear on the right side of your screen. Have you ever noticed that they seem to be targeted especially towards you? That's because they are. Facebook targets ads based on factors such as recent conversation, page visits, clicks, and "likes" (yes, they are watching you!). This may be something that you as a REALTOR® may be instereted in! Facebook will assist you in creating an ad campagin tailored to your liking. Perhaps you want to target people who live in a certain area, or who have posted statuses or visited pages that have to do with key words, such as "rent" "house" "move", etc. Of course, this isn't free, but you have your options: pay per click where you only pay when someone clicks on your ad, or pay per impression (the user doesn't have to click, you pay regardless of whether or not they click on your ad). Something to consider if you're a social media savvy agent!
