NEWS FLASH

Just a brief message regarding the recent announcement from Governor Patrick regarding the Fair Share employer Contribution Penalty.  Please see full story below.

As far as renewals, we have seen a slight increase in 3rd quarter small group ( less than 50) renewals.   Many groups are still receiving single digit increases, but we have seen some double digit increases as well.  Regardless, at every renewal we will automatically obtain quotes from all major carriers to review all options with our clients.

Don't forget to review your life and disability coverage as well.

We are always available - call or send an  email to  Bill or Vanessa today.

Sincerely,

Governor Patrick follows Obama lead

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts planned on stopping penalties next year on employers since the Affordable Care Act also has penalties to start in 2014.  Now that the Affordable Care Act is being delayed, there was concern whether the Commonwealth penalty would continue for another year or not.

Story in the Boston Globe.

The state's landmark 2006 health care law included a provision, referred to as the "fair share employer contribution," requiring that employers with more than 10 workers provide coverage or pay the state $295 per employee.

Some business groups saw the requirement as onerous and initially pushed to loosen the law, but the Patrick administration agreed to eliminate it because a similar federal mandate was set to take effect in January. The repeal was included in the 2014 budget, which Patrick likely will act on tomorrow

Governor Deval Patrick said Thursday that he will not block the repeal of a state mandate for employers to provide health insurance to their workers or pay a penalty, though the Obama administration last week announced a delay in the federal program that was supposed to take its place.
