Greg Hanley to Keynote 2014 Autism Conference
The wheels are in motion as we gear up for next year!  Save the date for our 4th annual Transdisciplinary Autism Conference on March 7th and 8th.  We are thrilled to announce our first keynote speaker - Dr. Gregory P. Hanley, BCBA-D, of Western New England University.  Dr. Hanley is a favorite among BCBAs at the annual international ABA conference, and is well known for his highly successful work in treating sleep problems and challenging behaviors in autism.  He is also known for his easy to follow and entertaining presentation style, which made him first on our list of keynote candidates.  As you know, we at AZA don't like boring conferences...  If you enjoyed last year's keynote, Dr. Pat Friman, you'll be happy to know that he personally recommended Greg.

On Friday, March 7th, Dr. Hanley will deliver a keynote presentation at the Transdisciplinary Autism Conference: Meaningful Solutions for Some Extraordinary Problem Behavior Associated With Autism.  On Thursday, March 6th, Dr. Hanley will lead two pre-conference workshops for BCBAs, parents, psychologists, counselors and other professionals.  One workshop will focus on functional assessment of problem behavior, and the other on treating sleep problems in children.  More information about this conference will be announced soon, including a *Super Early Registration Rate* opportunity.  Mark your calendars and stay tuned!

New Hands-On ABA Training Course for Habilitators
Calling all AZA Habilitators!  Have you been yearning for an ABA training opportunity that involves material review, role play, and hands-on training with your client?  Well, yearn no more.  We are thrilled to announce a new comprehensive training opportunity for AZA Habilitation Therapists.  Best of all, for right now we are offering this opportunity for FREE!  That's right - amazing training, working directly with our BCBA Clinical Supervisors and having some fun learning with your peers, at no cost to you whatsoever.  This training focuses on programs for younger children in our Hab-M program, but all AZA Habilitation Therapists are welcome to participate.  AZA parents can also join us!  For more information on this ABA Skills Training Series, click here.  This is a 3-part training series, so you will sign up for 3 separate days.  We have several dates available for each class, starting June 24th.  For a current schedule and to sign up, please contact Paulina Tiffany, Outreach Coordinator, at [email protected] or 602-773-5780.  Space is limited so call as soon as possible.  See you in the clinic!

Luau Pool Party for Families - Everyone is Invited!
Triple digit temperatures are here, so it's time for another POOL PARTY on July 20th at the fantastic Nozomi Aquatic Center in Chandler!  This event is open to ANY family in our autism community (not just AZA clients).  Come join us as we  get together to cool off, play and make long lasting friendships.  This year's pool party has an extra twist, with a Luau theme with  food and fun activities, including make-your-own ice cream, make and take jewelry station, bubble station, dancing time, waterslides and much more.   Take advantage of our $5 early registration price before June 28th. Space is limited! Click here to register.

New Support Group for AZA Parents

We are very excited to announce a new support group created by parents for parents!  The first meeting will take place on June 24th, 7:00 - 9:00 pm in AZA United's building. The session will be an open-ended discussion so those who attend can speak freely about their struggles and triumphs while searching for solutions together. This group will be facilitated by Diane Martin, a Licensed Professional Counselor and a parent to two adorable children, one of them with ASD.  All parents and grandparents are welcome to attend.  Please contact [email protected] to RSVP or get more information.

200 People Attend First Spanish Autism Conference

With great joy we want deeply thank our volunteers and staff who made possible our first ever Spanish Autism Conference that we had in May. We had about 200 people involved, an outstanding lineup of speakers, and cultural entertainment and refreshments.  We would like to thank BMO Harris Bank for their very generous sponsorship, as well as Peter Piper Pizza and Paletas Betty for their support. With this conference we were able to reach a large number of families and professionals delivering current and quality information in their own native language. "Each week Talon's football coach has a 'Word of the Week' to encourage the kids to strive for good character qualities. He then awards the Team Ball to the player who best displays those qualities. On this week the word was Adversity. Talon was thrilled when he was recognized for displaying the strength to work hard in the face of Adversity. Way to go Talon!"
