The folks at Athens Bicycle and Parkersburg Bicycle are excited to bring you this news about upcoming cycling activities in the region and new initiatives at the bike shops.
Focus on Triathlon at Athens Bicycle
Join Athens Bicycle staff and friends on Tuesday, March 11, from 7-9 p.m. for an evening of triathlon-focused demos and mini-clinics.

If you are registered for or considering participating in the 2014 OhioHealth O'Bleness Health System Race for a Reason, this is a great opportunity to get some hands-on instruction in basic bike skills that you'll need during the bike portion of the event.

In addition to great information for beginner cyclists, will offer light refreshments and a SPECIAL SHOPPING DISCOUNT of 20% off purchases that evening (sale items and bikes excluded).

With a variety of stations set up around the shop, we will offer mini clinics and "show and tell" sessions covering the following topics. Experienced triathletes and road cyclists will present information on:
  • Basic bike positioning and hand positions on the bike
  • Shifting and what to do if you drop your chain
  • Course familiarity and rules of the road
  • Differences in bicycle types
  • Clothing options for triathletes

Tour de Forest Set for May 3
Athens Bicycle is pleased to get on board this year as a sponsor of the Tour de Forest Benefit Bicycle Ride.

This noncompetitive, self-paced road tour starts and ends at Stuart's Opera House on Nelsonville's historic public square. The ride travels through roads that bisect the Wayne National Forest, and highlights historic towns that tell the story of the boom and bust history of the Hocking Valley Coalfields.

Registration fee includes a commemorative bandana and lunch after the ride at Stuart's Opera House, as well as some water and snack stops along the course.

With course offerings of 10, 26, 33, 41, 63 and 100 miles, including family-friendly options, there is something for everyone. Choose to ride flat on the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway or wear yourself out with more than 6,000 feet of climbing on the 100-mile route.

The Tour de Forest benefits heritage and environmental education in the Little Cities of Black Diamonds Region.
Parkersburg to Host Adventure Expo
Downtown PKB will host an Adventure Recreation Expo on Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Parkersburg Farmers Market.

Purchase outdoor equipment from vendors (local businesses and individuals), learn how to get involved in area outdoor activities and see demonstrations given by local outdoor enthusiasts.

There is not a fee to set up a booth, but a 5% commission on items sold will go toward purchasing bicycle racks for downtown Parkersburg.
Gravel Rouser: Ready or Not?
Rouser Podium 2013 It has been a rough winter but spring MUST be around the corner because so is the Gravel Rouser. That's right folks, it's just a month away!

Expect off-road racing on Thursday and Friday evenings. On Saturday, we will again stage operations out of Kiser's BBQ at Eclipse before riding to Lake Hope State Park and back. Sunday will feature the Grab & Git City Scramble, donut party and podium awards at Athens Bicycle.
