March 22, 2013

Last Saturday, March 16th was another great race event at Teton Springs Resort with beautiful blue skies and smiling faces. Race participants included some new faces, such as mother/daughter duo Ellie Dunn and Michelle Dunn, and some familiar faces as well.  There were friends participating in their first 5k together and others who have lost count!

SPRING BREAK FITNESS CLASS SCHEDULE:  Just a reminder that class cancellations have been made during spring break week (March 25 - March 30) while our instructors enjoy some leisure time.  Please check the online schedule prior to attending any class. 

SPRING BREAK FITNESS CLASS ADDITION:  The 9:00 am Intervals with Weight class has been rescheduled for Monday, March 25th!  This class will be taught by Abby. 

Effective Monday, April 15th evening childcare will only be offered on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30.  All other evening classes will no longer offer the childcare option.

Chris Jensen is our athlete of the week.  He participated in all three 10k running events in the Winter Race Series and rocked it!  Chris was crowned as this year's 10k triple crown winner.

Ask the Coach
Each week we will pick one fitness/nutrition question submitted by you, our clients, and feature it in this section along with an answer to the question.  All questions will be answered by one of our great coaches here at Dreamchasers.  Please indicate if there is a specific coach that you would like your question directed to.

Cross Training 


If you are training for a specific sport it is important to maintain focus on the exercises for that sport, however, it is just as important that you incorporate cross-training in your routine.  The term cross training simply means to involve several forms of exercise.   


After months of the same movements your body becomes extremely efficient in those movements.  This limits the amount of overall fitness you possess and reduces the actual conditioning you get while training; rather than continuing to improve, you simply maintain a certain level of fitness. Cross training also reduces the risk of injury from repetitive strain or overuse by varying the stress placed on specific muscles and the cardiovascular system.    


For optimal performance, a weekly training schedule should look a little something like this:


 - 4 days sport-specific training

 - 2 days cross training

 - 1 day rest


Each individual training plan should vary depending on fitness levels and goals. Contact Dreamchasers if you are interested in a training plan specifically designed for you.  We will place you with a coach that will guide you to optimum performance and results!

Multi-Bean Salad

Ingredients - Marinade

1/2 cup vinegar (cider or wine)       1/2 cup olive oil   
1/2 tsp basil, dash majoram          1/2 tsp salt
3 cloves crushed garlic                 1 Tbs red wine
rind & juice of 1/2 lemon               black pepper

Ingredients - Beans

5 cups cooked snap peas (green, wax, dragon, purple)
1/2 cup cooked scallions
1/2 cup finely minced red onion
freshly chopped parsley

Directions:  Pour marinade over beans and gently mix.  Chill. Can make this a day ahead of time so beans really absorb the flavors.
