Rejuvenate Your Skin
If you are using hormone replacement to help slow the ageing process and keep yourself as healthy as possible as you age, what are you doing for your skin? Why not look as good as you feel?
Many of us notice brown "Age Spots" on our face and hands. Actually they can appear anyplace on the body. They are a result of many years of sun exposure. You may notice that they are more prevalent on the left side of your face. That is because that side of your face receives much more sun exposure when you are driving your car.
There are many ways available to us to rejuvenate the skin and rid us of those unsightly "age spots". Some of you may have already tried laser, Fraxel, or acid peels.
The best way to accomplish skin rejuvenation, however, is called Microneedling or Dermrolling.
I have been performing these treatments for my patients for over a year.
The goal of all of these modalities is to cause minor injury to the most superficial layers of the skin which triggers the healing process. The healing process is what results in removing pigment, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles and increases firmness and tone. Whenever the skin is damaged, collagen production is initiated to promote healing. The laying down of collagen is what results in younger looking skin.
Laser, peels and fraxel(a superficial form of laser) all stimulate collagen production. Unfortunately, they do so with permanent undesired side effects. Due to the high temperature of the lasers(and Fraxel), the most delicate skin cells(melanocytes) become burned and permanently damaged. This will result in skin losing its lustre, color and youthfulness. The skin will develop a pallor void of color. It almost looks 'dead'!
There is a great option available to achieve the same results without these unwanted side effects, called Microneedling or Dermrolling.
Dermrolling creates micro damage to the skin just like laser does, resulting in collagen synthesis with one significant benefit; IT DOES NOT KILL SKIN CELLS ! Therefore the result is vibrant, robust, healthy looking skin devoid of fine lines, wrinkles, and pigment. The skin also attains a more firm and toned appearance due to the production of new collagen, which actually stretches out the upper skin layers.
The needle rollers used for these treatments come in varying lengths depending on what type of skin is being treated and what end result is desired. Shorter needles are used on thinner more delicate skin, while longer needles are used to soften scar tissue for example.
Dermal needling also dramatically enhances the absorption of nutrients and reagents applied to the skin. Many treatments incorporate peptides, growth factors, vitamins or antioxidants to give a greater boost to the collagen generation and improve results. These serums are applied to the skin just before needling. The many tiny holes created allow for better absorption of these nutrients, much like aerating the lawn with fertilizer.
Dermal needling is excellent for skin tightening, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, sun damage related pigment and can help soften deeper scars.
