A native of the Ardeche, and the scion of butchers and pig farmers, Stephane Reynaud is an award winning author of a number of French cookbooks.

Stephane is one of our favourite authors; a French cookery writer and chef; a gentle giant with a wicked sense of humour and a great sense of taste; and a champion of all good things rustic and French!

Over the years we've cooked from and launched all of Stephane's books "Pork & Sons", Ripailles, Terrine, Rotis, Barbecues and 365 Good Things to Eat; with much good food and wine.

Stephane's new book and our new favourite is "Stephane Reynaud's Book of Tripe: and gizzards, kidneys, feet, brains & all the rest"

This is a challenging yet celebratory book full of both traditional and contemporary recipes that will thrill offal lovers and convert many offal novices.

All the dishes are beautifully and simply photographed. Many are elegantly simple and easy to cook. Trust your butcher and your seasoning and you too can eat 'Nose to Tail'

To book for lunch, please call  La Luna Bistro on 03 9349 4888

If you can't join us for lunch but would like a copy of Stephane Reynaud's Book of Tripe you can order it here...

If you've ever aspired to writing a food blog - here's your chance to found out how its done from
Australia's best blogger - all with some glorious food and a glass of wine.

Join us on Friday 30th May for an evening with renowned blogger Sneh Roy of the award-winning blog, Cook Republic and now author of Tasty Express released this month.

Sneh was recognised last year as Australia's best blogger (not just food blogger!).

We'll be chatting with Sneh about her career as a food blogger, her new cookbook (its rather delicious)  her delicious inventive recipes, her food influences and her luscious photography (all of which have earned her legions of devoted followers).

Sneh's inspirations include the cosmopolitan eats of the urban food truck and inner city café, the fresh variety of a lively market and the unforgettable aromas of her childhood in India.  These influences are then turned into healthy often vegetarian or vegan friendly takes on comfort foods like tacos, flatbreads, veggie burgers, granola and froyo, plus a few irresistibly naughty treats.

Some of the wonderful dishes in Tasty Express include: Coconut Bircher Muesli, Carrot Cake Muffins, Kulfi Milk, Eggplant Lasagna Steaks, Kale Soup With Grilled Cheese, Brown Rice Biryani Salad, Quinoa Spice Croquettes, Sweet Potato And Pepita Burgers, Tofu And Cashew Curry, Burnt Butter Caramel Slice, Coconut Froyo and Gingerbread Tiramisu.

Every Ticket includes a copy of Tasty Express ($39.95)

Community

Community by Hetty McKinnon $34.95

The recipes in Community are inspired by author Hetty McKinnon's community kitchen, Arthur Street Kitchen, where Hetty single-handedly makes and delivers homemade salads to residents in Surry Hills, Sydney, on Thursday and Friday every week. All by bike!

Hetty's salads use only the freshest produce, sourced locally wherever possible.

Inspired first and foremost by the seasons, Hetty also takes cues from what she sees, smells and experiences from the world around her. At the heart of every dish is a core vegetable, around which a thoughtful culinary story is built, resulting in honest, inventive and hearty salads that deliver big, punchy flavours.

If you've been enjoying Yotam Ottolenghi or Nigel Slatter - this is a great new Australian author to savour.  Don't worry if our website says 'out of stock' we have more coming very soon
A Year in the Life of Grange
by Milton Wordley & Ors

A Year in the Life of Grange
A Year in the Life of Grange by Milton Wordley
Every now and then, something arrives that just takes your breath away.

This self published photo essay about Australia's Iconic wine Grange is quite simply stunning.  Bibliophiles and wine lovers will both want, covet, nay demand this.

We are extremely honoured to be asked to stock this limited edition and iconic book.

Released last year in 3 extremely limited versions, A Year in the Life of Grange has received critical acclaim here in Australia and several International awards.

This is the perfect gift for collectors, wine buffs and Grange lovers (unless you are a former NSW premier!)

To quote Max Allen, in the Australian...

"THIS is the biggie: one for the obsessed wine collector who already has a cellar full of great bottles. Yes, it is a lot of cash to spend on a book, but this exceptionally well-told tale of Australia's most famous wine is also an incredibly limited, absolutely gorgeous work of art, beautiful to hold, to read, to pore over.

The sumptuous photographs are by veteran snapper Milton Wordley; the evocative, richly layered text is by Philip White, maverick wine writer and old friend of Grange creator Max Schubert; everything including the generously large-format design, printing and binding is proudly South Australian."

Or James Halliday, in the Wine Companion

"...one of the most amazing books to ever appear on the Australian vinous landscape. It is the work of Milton Wordley, a professional photographer for more than 40 years, and a master photographer with the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers. No less importantly, winemakers, vineyards and wines have been one of Wordley's abiding interests.

The words have been contributed by Philip White, who has for long been at the absolute forefront of creative wine prose; to call him a wine writer is to damn him by faint praise. He has been around for far longer than Campbell Mattinson, but the two leave the rest of us in their wake when it comes to setting the scene. The third contributor to the book is John Nowland, with more than 35 years' experience in the design industry, winning awards both in Australia and around the world."

There are three versions, all handmade folio books measuring 38x31cm.  Included with all books is a DVD of a series of interviews recorded with well-known wine identities including Max Schubert and Dr. Ray Beckwith.

The Limited Edition $785 - 1000 copies (#351-1350) Traditional canvas cover with a full colour dust jacket and presented in a rigid slipcase.

The Winemakers Edition $1,000 - 250 copies (#101-350) 'GAIA' Fabric cover with Kangaroo hide spine, presented in a slipcase. Includes an exclusive print of the four winemakers of Grange, printed on archival "Giclee" 310 gsm German Etching archival paper, signed by the artist, mounted and ready to frame.

The Collectors Edition $4,000 - 100 copies (#1-100) Leather bound with a Kangaroo hide spine. Includes a folio of 7 original museum grade "Giclee" photographs from the book printed on 310 gsm German Etching archival paper, signed by the artist, window-matted and presented in a leather Portfolio box. A genuine Limited Edition, the book and the folio of original photographs are presented in a Black buckram archive box featuring American Oak sides.

Due to the extremely limited nature of the editions, stock is not held instore and Orders will be shipped directly from the author/photographer.

A copy of the Winemaker's Edition with the print of the four winemakers of Grange is available to see instore. You won't be disappointed!

The Definitive Guide to Cooking Grains
by Molly Brown
Grains by Molly Brown
Grains by Molly Brown $39.95

One of the big trends for the past few years has publishing of books featuring ancient and alternate grains, seeds and legumes such as chia seeds, lentils (all colours), beans, chickpeas, rices, spelt, farro and freekah, barley, quinoa,  couscous, amaranth, kamut and burghul and many others.

Although there are recipes involving wheat, this is a great book for the gluten and wheat intolerant as it offers many delicious alternatives.  Equally this would be a very useful book for vegetarians although recipes involving meat are included.

The style is reminiscent of Yotam Ottolenghi and Nigel Slater with lots of  casual composed salads, a borrowing of Middle Eastern, Indian, Spanish and North African flavours and unusual and interesting combinations.

Each recipe is beautifully photographed - highly recommended!

Which brings us to a close for this Newsletter.

Happy Cooking, Reading & Eating!
