We've Been to Frankfurt (and back)

Another outstanding Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings & Events (IMEX) has come and gone in Frankfurt, Germany and two key representatives of NHS Global Events attended the show. We thought we'd share some of the observations of our Manager of Meetings & Events Melissa Swakow and Director of Global Accounts Peter Schmidt.

Both noted that it was a great way to familiarize yourself with cities and countries close to Frankfurt that take advantage of that proximity. "It's easy to become solely focused on the top tier international destinations but IMEX opened my eyes to so many more countries that rely on Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) business," said Melissa. And Peter took advantage of one of the pre-conference fam trips on offer to visit Vienna, Austria.

The purpose of the IMEX hosted buyer program is to give qualified meeting industry buyers the opportunity to do business with suppliers from around the world. Peter noted that although every stand offers a standard fare of F&B options, the key focus of the show is on the business side with representatives on top of their game ready to sell their product and destination. IMEX makes sure that appointments are booked throughout the day to keep the energy on the floor until show hours come to a close. In addition, the larger stands host receptions and entertainment starting in the late afternoon to further maintain a level of excitement for all attendees and to keep it lively.

Our intrepid representatives were also wowed by the elaborate displays. Melissa was particularly impressed by "the lush (faux) flora of the Costa Rican booth, the Belgian beers on tap promoting that country's display and the extremely tall Dubai booth."

Peter, who opened the Frankfurt Hilton before moving to the U.S., notes that the city is the financial center of Germany and is known for its high functionality and great infrastructure. But because many of its buildings were destroyed by bombing during World War II, most of the city's architecture lacks the Old German charm.
Meeting planners, if you've never been to IMEX Frankfurt, feel free to pick the brains of Melissa and Peter to learn how a visit next April could benefit you.

NHS Global Events Core Value #1: Always Be On

Four Seasons has Five Diamonds at Disney

Imagine holding your next board meeting or incentive trip on a secluded 26-acre oasis on Disney property in a gated residential community of luxury homes. That's what you'll find at Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort.

Not only that, but as Director of Sales Brian Plott proudly notes, "We are Central Florida's first and only AAA Five Diamond Award property."

While the resort is nestled in a neighborhood called Golden Oak, with palm trees, woodlands and natural wetlands, the area's attractions are a quick ride away.

"We have our own Four Seasons motor coach that offers complimentary transportation to the four main Disney parks," says Brian. "It gives a group the ability to be isolated in a completely immersed luxury environment and focus on business, or branch out and take advantage of the best theme park experience on the planet."

Of course, you'll also be able to take advantage of Orlando's great airlift and warm climate as well as Universal Orlando Resort, wildlife adventures on the water, shopping tours and the other Orlando area attractions.

"The meeting space is spacious, luxurious, and we have thought of everything," boasts Brian. "Two large ballrooms are flexible with natural light and breakout space that compliments the larger space well."

NHS Global Events President Bill Lynch recently visited the property in conjunction with a client event for support during their high-level program and to experience the property. Bill was impressed and, more importantly, received great feedback from a satisfied client about the spectacular design, service, and exquisite ambiance that the Four Seasons represents.

NHS Global Events Core Value #2: The Best Idea Doesn't Exist Yet

Ideas to Make You more Productive

We're kind of in the wish granting business, as long as you're not requesting untold riches or expecting us to find you a suitable mate. But we can, in a convoluted way, grant your wish for more hours in the day, which we know most event planners have been hoping for forever.

We can do it but sharing some ideas for making you more productive. These were developed by Kelli White on the Event Manager Blog, and they make a lot of sense.

1. Organize checklists: "One of the most important parts of the day is the 20-30 minutes you spend planning out the tasks you need to accomplish. Set aside time to relax, drink your coffee and plan out what your day needs to look like to be a success."

2. Turn Off Distractions: "After you get yourself organized, turn off...your phone and email alerts until you are ready to move to these types of tasks."

3. Start Out Small: Just as you can make mountains out of molehills, you can also do the reverse. White suggests "breaking your large-scale projects into smaller, more-attainable tasks."

4. Stop Multitasking: "When you are struggling to stay focused...try seeing one task through to completion before moving on."

5. Properly Utilize a Calendar or Agenda: "Having your entire schedule at a glance allows you to focus on upcoming projects."

6. Find Your Time of Day: "Being self-aware and honest about your most productive hours will help you to increase your output."

7. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: "Overall health and wellness, such as eating the right foods and getting enough sleep, will ensure you can stay on task and alert."

There you go. Next wish?
