Christmas: A Time of Harvest

"The harvest is plentiful," Jesus said.
We are prone to think of the harvest as resistant, or even absent. But Jesus indicates the harvest is more ready than we are to receive it!
As musical programs and messages are being rehearsed, let's pray, plan for, and expect a harvest! This means we must give people opportunities (plural) to respond to God's gospel invitation to believe in a Savior who has come to redeem.
In the Old Testament, the LORD promises His hard-working people a harvest, and He encourages celebrations around those harvest times. Borrowing from God's words to them:
For the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete.

Already rejoicing and thanking the Lord for a Christmas harvest of souls,

Prayer Requests; CPW Day of Prayer and Fasting, December 8th

Ask the Lord of the harvest for a huge in-gathering of souls this Christmas in Northern California and Hawaii... and specifically in your church!

Ask God to lead our churches and district to realize:
  • BetterGospelSharing, resulting in waves of people saved, baptized, and well-discipled
  • BetterChurchHealth, resulting in leaders and congregations fulfilling their God-given mission with joy and power
  • BetterPastorFitness, with pastors courageously leading, helped by God and a peer network
  • BetterChurchStarting, with established churches supporting life and community transforming church plants
  • BetterWorldImpact, resulting in the world seeing our good deeds--here, near, and far away--and glorifying the Father in heaven

Kinsey Capaldo, daughter of Converge Heartland district executive minister Jim and his wife Kari,
is back in her hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after being treated in Minnesota. She has started in rehab and is eating solid foods. Kinsey's lungs have continued to improve, but her biggest challenge will be learning to walk again. To encourage the Capaldos as they continue this journey, you may send cards and letters to: 2507 W Nicole Drive, Sioux Falls, SD, 57105.

Jerry Sheveland, Mountain View Community Church teaching pastor and former Converge president,
has definitely turned a corner and God continues to answer prayers. The doctors say he has no infection, his lungs are clear, and his oxygen levels are back to normal. The incision (from his previous hip surgery) is healing well, but wound specialists say it may take several months to close completely. His orthopedic surgeon and his physical therapists think he has made such great progress that he is ready for rehab, so he will be transferred this week to Sharp Memorial Acute Rehab Center. Please pray for endurance (he will go from 1 hour each day of physical therapy to 3 hours daily at the rehab). Thank you for praying!

A resource for CPW pastors...

We are pleased to announce that Converge PacWest (CPW) has joined with QuietWaters Ministries to bring you the CareLine.

The CareLine is a professional and confidential consulting resource for Converge PacWest pastors and their families, provided free of charge. Twelve (12) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, the CareLine answering service puts you in contact with one of QuietWaters' licensed, doctor or master level counselors with personal experience in ministry to talk about a personal or congregational issue. The counselors provide assessment, consultation and referral when you have personal, congregational, or ministry concerns and problems. You simply call the toll-free number 888-814-5550.

Examples of when to use the CareLine:

  • "A counseling situation I needed advice for"
  • "Depression, marital problems"
  • "Info about potential for violence in a bi-polar person"
  • "Concern with an adult daughter"
  • "A family member depressed and talking about life not worth living"
  • "Congregant possibly suicidal"

The CareLine is provided to help you lead with strength . . . "A wise man has great power, and a man of knowledge increases strength; for waging war you need guidance, and for victory many advisers." Proverbs 24:5-6 (NIV)

Contact the CPW office to find out more about the program.
