The Spirit's Work in the Church

CPW family, here's a good word from Charles Van Engen:
"It may be good for us to remember what Acts affirms regarding the work of the Holy Spirit in the growth, health, and development of the church. A reading of Acts yields at least the following list.

"The Holy Spirit:
creates the church
reforms and transforms the church
empowers the church
unifies the church
gives new wisdom and illumination to the words of Jesus
sends the church
creates the deep desire to grow
accompanies the church
guides the church
prays for and through us and intercedes for us
gives us the words of witness
facilitates communication
develops receptivity
convinces of sin, righteousness, and judgment
converts persons to faith in Jesus Christ
gathers and unites Christians together in the church
builds up the faith community, edifies it, and helps it to grow
incorporates new arrivals
sends the church anew to the world so loved by God

"One of the Holy Spirit's principle desires is to enable the church to grow... Yearning to grow is a mark of the presence of the Holy Spirit and is part of the essence of the church's nature. This is more than an attitude. It is, rather, the bottom line, the bedrock commitment of the church's mission."

Upcoming Retreats and Trainings in PacWest
Praises and Prayer Requests for CPW Day of Prayer, Tuesday, April 14

Ask God to lead us to realize in 2015...
  • BetterGospelSharing (6% of weekend attendance baptized): it was exciting to hear of recent baptisms taking place in Brentwood, NewCov/Fresno, Santa Rosa, and Santa Clara and to learn that NewCov baptized 10% of their average weekend attendance in 2014.
  • BetterChurchHealth (70% of churches growing): we're so thankful that churches in Benicia, San Jose, and Lompoc are using the NCD Church Health Assessment Tool!
  • BetterPastorFitness (75% of pastors in LEAD Teams, 50% being coached): praise God and pray for our LEAD Team Coaches: Larry Adams, David Doupe, Luis Floriano, John Merritt, Craig Selness, William Taghap, and Jän van Oosten.
  • BetterChurchStarting (6% church start rate in PacWest) -- thank the Lord for the 30 leaders from PacWest who attended the Ignite Church Planting Conference in March.
  • BetterWorldImpact (100% of churches making gospel difference here, near, and far away) -- Pastor William Taghap and Wilmina Taghap are in the Philippines NOW serving at a youth conference that will grow many in Christ.

Remember the Dan Owens family in your prayers. Dan led Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Concord, as a Youth Pastor and Senior Pastor for many years in addition to his ministries as an evangelist, a member of the Luis Palau Evangelistic team, and founder of Eternity Minded Ministries. Dan recently lost his battle with cancer, but is now fully realizing God's peace, presence, and resurrection power. A memorial service will be held in his honor and for God's glory at Golden Hills Community Church on Saturday, May 9, at 1 pm.

Praise God for outstanding Easter Services in

our churches! Pray that many will follow through on their decisions and that many will continue to follow the Spirit's leading to salvation and discipleship in the weeks and months to come!

Please pray for Ruth Olson, wife of the late Executive Minister Cully Olson and mother of Karla Adams (of Golden Hills/Brentwood). She suffered severe stroke on Sunday as she was making her way from San Jose to Brentwood for Easter service.

Give thanks for the 60 women (up from 38 in 2014) who participated in and were blessed by the recent CPW Latino Women's Conference in Pismo Beach last month. Also express your appreciation to our Father for the 293 men who attended Men's Retreat at Mt. Hermon, the 17 who made decisions to trust Christ or recommit their lives to Him, and the $2,500 offering given for Church Planting in Fresno.

The Converge Retirement Plan is on track for another exceptional year of enrollment. The Retirement Basic Plan provides a guaranteed lifetime income for participants. The value of this cannot be overstated; people are living longer and therefore the value of guaranteed income is a consideration that should not be overlooked. Clergy participants also receive a housing allowance deduction for their benefits. The tax savings can be significant. If you would like to know more about enrolling your pastors or staff members in the Converge Retirement Plan, contact Retirement Plan specialist Ed Shannon at 877.482.6882.
Converge PacWest's mission is to glorify God by starting and strengthening churches that transform lives and communities here, near, and far away.
