Trusting in Turmoil

The Hope of Nations
Trusting God during times of turmoil
Brennan Manning, in his book, The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus, tells of a stressful experience that occurred just before Christmas. He was in a Chicago airport waiting to get a flight to Texas. Because of a severe storm, however, he and thousands of others were not going anywhere. All flights were delayed. Impatient airline passengers unleashed their frustrations on airline workers, children were crying, the piped in Christmas carols were constantly interrupted by dreaded flight cancellations, and many just sat and stared in disbelief.

In the middle of this miserable scene, Manning spotted a middle-aged black woman cradling a child in her arms and laughing. He asked, "Would you mind telling me why you're so happy?"

"Sho," she said. "Christmas is coming and dat baby Jesus---He make me laugh."

Psalm 16:8-9, reminds us that focusing on the Lord at all times is the key to a joyful heart:

"I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure."

As you lead others through local, regional, national, international, and seasonal stresses and struggles, keep Jesus in view. In Him there is stability, hope, security... and even a smile!

Celebrating our Savior and thankful for you,

Prayer Requests for CPW Day of Prayer, Tuesday, December 8
  • Continue to pray that God will lead us to realize...
    • BetterGospelSharing (5% of weekend attendance baptized in 2014)
    • BetterChurchHealth (66% of churches growing)
    • BetterPastorFitness (75% of pastors participating in LEAD Teams)
  • Pat and Michelle Gordon (right), Lead Pastoral Couple of Crosspoint  Church in Santa Rosa. Pat's battle with leukemia has not gone well to date. Pastor Pat continues to have opportunities to share the gospel and encourage the medical staff from his "Kaiser Hotel Room." We continue to pray for God's good and perfect will to be accomplished through this trial for His glory.
  • Pray that the Church will inspire good and healthy conversations and action around issues of racism, police conduct, and community violence that remind people of our fallen nature and our desperate need for Christ to redeem us and lead us (see Ferguson picture to the right).
  • Let's thank the Lord for the much needed rain!
  • Pray that all CPW churches will take full advantage of their opportunities to share the story of Christmas that brings salvation and hope!
  • Ask the Lord to use the Converge leadership meeting Dec. 9-10 in Orlando as a foundation for future collaboration in starting and strengthening churches between our new President, Scott Ridout, and Converge district leaders.
