A Summer Proverb: Reap What Is Ripe...

In farming and church, we'd do well to know and apply the simple proverb: "Reap what is ripe..."

Summertime is a time to reap in at least two areas: calling and connecting. Summer is a tremendous time to reap souls who are being called to salvation. High impact programs -- like VBS, short-term missions, and Christian camping --  can help transform lives and eternities. And this summer, let's not miss the further opportunity to challenge students and young adults to listen for God's call to Christian service.

Also "in season" during summer is connecting: connecting in less formal settings like block parties, baseball games, BBQs, and road trips. Personally take advantage of the long days and more relaxed schedules of summer. Strategic connections among church leadership teams can also be used during summer to optimize efforts and resources for the next season, which will be more about learning and growth (which is what's ripe in the Fall).

Summertime is not the best time to base ministry projections on "nickels and noses" (i.e.: finances and attendance). Expecting a "summer slump" rather than combating it, will save much grief! It also sets the stage for the more welcomed "school-beginning bump." **

Converge Worldwide President Jerry Sheveland has announced his desire to begin a formal succession process to find the next President of Converge Worldwide.   Read more about the search process here.

CPW Prayer and Fasting Day, Tuesday, June 10th
After fifteen years of faithful, effective leadership and service, Converge Worldwide President, Jerry Sheveland has set in place a
succession plan to find our next President. Ask God to reveal His choice for this role, and pray for the search team who is spearheading this process.

Pray earnestly for Converge PacWest churches who are without Senior Pastors.  Ask the Lord to do great things in order to place the men of His choosing in the assignments ordained for them at just the right times. Also ask God to sustain the churches through their search processes, and through the times of transition.

Pray for the Fresh Encountersworship-based prayer conference,to be led by Daniel Henderson at Golden Hills Community Church in Brentwood on August 16th.  Ask God to equip those who will be assisting in leadership at the conference, and pray that mighty things will be accomplished for God's kingdom through this event!

Pray that Better Gospel Sharing, Better Church Health, and Better Pastor Fitness

continues to become a reality in our district.

Ask God to open doors for the gospel, so we will see people respond to Christ's invitation to salvation and be baptized -- with a goal of 750 baptisms this year (each church baptizing 5% of their weekend attendance)!

Thinking it through...

To think through the Summer Proverb, "Reap what is ripe," ask and answer these questions:

  • Have you recognized the seasons of ministry? Are you working with them or against them?
  • Do your high impact summer church programs call people to salvation and service to Christ?
  • Do you take advantage of summer to connect... with family, neighbors, friends, small groups, and ministry planning teams (preparing for the next busy season)?
  • [Note: The first CPW Dialog reader to email Wilmina@convergepacwest.com with the word "Jamba" will receive a refreshing summer beverage! (=$10 Jamba card)]
  • Do you resist the temptation to base your "ministry success" on the giving and attendance trends of summer?
