Church Leadership Essentials

Our generation has an unquenchable fascination with "leadership." I offer three axioms for church leaders:
   1. Leadership in the church is necessarily spiritual. That is, leadership is fundamentally following the Spirit's lead. It is sourced in and shaped by God, and it aligns with His Word. Skipping the spiritual nature of church leadership contradicts the church's message and mission.
   2. Leadership involves movement. No movement? No need for leadership. Jesus repeatedly said, "Follow me." Good church leaders know where they are going and have a strong sense of how to get there.
   3. Leadership brings others along. John Maxwell reminds us that one test of leadership is to turn around and see if anyone is following. If not, he says, you're not leading, you're just going for a walk. Effective church leaders are alert to how far and how fast followers can travel.
CPW has hundreds of incredible leaders who are spiritual, directional, and alert to those they lead. Join me in thanking God for every pastor, board member, and Sunday School teacher leading others to know and follow Christ! Also, join in praying for their continued leadership and for CPW's Fall Retreat for Church Leadership Teams.

Trusting Jesus, our Leader,

Noteworthy
Praise God for The teams from Berean Bible Fellowship in Atascadero and New Covenant Church in Fresno who have recently joined in the Lord's work in Haiti.  The Atascadero Team gave medical help to Haitians, and saw 178 people accept Christ as their Savior!  The NewCov Team demonstrated Jesus' love at the Children's Welcome Homes in Maissade by upgrading the facilities, spending time with the children, networking First Baptist Church with Downline Ministries for discipleship training, and exploring funding streams to roof a village church plant. This is all reflective of the recent Memo of Understanding solidified between First Baptist Church of Maissade and Converge.

Living Hope Neighborhood Church in Richmond is hosting a "Heart for the City Engage: Love the City, Learn the City" conference on March 28-29. Dr. John Fuder will teach how to understand and reach your community in order to effectively proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel.  More info and promo flyer here.

CrossWinds Church
in Dublin held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, March 2nd.  The church is planning to relocate to land in the Livermore countryside on the site of a former dairy.  See more pictures online.

CPW Prayer and Fasting Day, Tuesday, March 11
Pray for two of our CPW pastors who are carrying on in leadership while recovering from surgeries: Pastor Mitch Ribera of New Harvest Church in Clovis, and Pastor Bob Hudson of Dunlap Baptist Church in Dunlap.

Pray for the upcoming Converge PacWest Men's Retreat that will take place March 7-9 at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center in the Santa Cruz mountains. Ask God to bring salvation and cause spiritual growth in many men through this retreat, and to empower keynote speaker Brad Bell to challenge and encourage the hearts of the men who attend.

Pray for Golden Hills Community Church Missionary, Ken L. who has recently been diagnosed with ALS. Pray for God's presence to be very real to Ken and his wife as they transition from their ministry in North Africa into this next season of life. Visit and interact with them on their blog/website at: kenandbeth.

Pray that Better Gospel Sharing, Better Church Health, and Better Pastor Fitness continues to become a reality in our district.

   Ask God to
open doors for the gospel, so we will see people respond to Christ's invitation to salvation and be baptized -- with a goal of 750 baptisms this year (each church baptizing 5% of their weekend attendance)!

We are asking the Lord to identify a Community and Spiritual Development Trainer who might serve us and our Haiti ministry partners in Maissade, Haiti.
