Keeping (or Making) Evangelism Zeal White Hot in 

Your Congregation  

White Hot Image Is the evangelistic climate in your congregation experiencing a cooling trend? Here are six ideas for increasing the heat:
  1. 1. Share testimonies of new converts regularly. New believers' stories inspire congregations.  
  2. 2. Frequently have pastors and leaders describe their attempts to share the gospel. Leaders' current, relevant gospel-sharing stories set the church's evangelistic thermostat to white HOT!
  3. Teach people to be filled with the Spirit. The primary outcome of the Spirit's filling in Acts is bold Truth telling (here's an excellent message on being filled with the Spirit).
  4. Offer practical training. Training builds confidence and gives people basic understanding and tools (Learn about CPW's upcoming Evangelism Training) But training will be unfruitful if it is not accompanied by #5.
  5. Challenge the church to be in regular contact with unbelievers. We can't share Christ or love people if we are isolated from them. Encourage believers to cultivate current contacts and relationships with unbelievers, keeping alert to anyone who may be especially open to God's love and direction due to life circumstances. 
  6. Pray expectantly -- and lead others to, too.

Maynor Reed
Rev. Maynor Reed, 83,  passed away June 27 after battling Alzheimer's and congestive heart failure. Maynor, with his wife Joan, pastored BGC/Converge churches in Everett, Wash.; SMaynor and Joanie Reedan Jose; and Napa. The final 13 years of his ministry he served as Executive Minister for the NCBC (now Converge PacWest), retiring in 1998. Maynor and Joan's son, Rick, served as pastor at Berean Bible Fellowship in Atascadero. Pastor Maynor was a pastor's pastor and left a spiritually indelible imprint on our district.  See pictures and read more here.

Sunrise Bible Church of San Jose is looking to re-launch in Pastor Jorge September, and there is opportunity to participate in the church renewal process! The needs include: funding (for a remodel and staffing), contractors to help with the build out, fencing, paint, landscaping, bathroom fixtures, paving, plumbing and electrical projects. Interested? Missio Dei Community of Santa Cruz, under the direction of Church Planter Bobby Marchessault is also looking to re-launch this Fall. Be in prayer for this re-start.

CPW Prayer and Fasting Day, Tuesday, August 13
   Praise God for the great reports from special Eye screeningSummer  Ministries -- VBS's, youth and family camps, neighborhood outreaches (like community eye screening in Richmond, picture to the right), picnics, mission trips (picture below from NewCov trip to Haiti), trail rides on horseback, church without walls... and more!! We have so many creative churches with practical and innovative ways to NewCov Haiti Team June '13 encourage and train believers as well as reach out with love and the gospel to the unbelieving! God is clearly opening many doors for gospel ministry. 
   Ask God to continue to open doors for the gospel, so we will see people respond to Christ's invitation to salvation and be baptized -- with a goal of 750 baptisms this year (each church baptizing 5% of their weekend attendance)!
   Pray for the churches preparing to launch in San Jose (LifeCity Church with John Markum; Bread of Life with Phong Nguyen), in Palo Alto with Juan Velencia, in Daly City with Lee Miller, in Turlock (Iglesia Bautista del Calvario with Juan Alaniz), and in Oakland (The Way with Bernard Emerson) and those relaunching in San Jose (Sunrise Bible Church) and Santa Cruz (Missio Dei Community).
   Pray that the Lord will mightily use the Spanish-Speaking Men's and Women's Retreats that are being planned.
   Ask the Lord to guide churches like Fair Oaks in Concord and First Christian in San Francisco that are making important changes in their church's present ministry schedule.
   We are asking the Lord to identify a Community and Spiritual Development Trainer who might serve us and our Haiti ministry partners in Maissade, Haiti.
