PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Dear friends and colleagues,

 

Storytelling is a rich part of childhood; listening to adventures, admiring heroes, and, always, a life lesson. We heard Grimm Fairy Tales, Aesop's Fables, One Thousand and One Nights, etc. As we listened and visualized the story, memorizing the various details, it was as though we were there. We didn't realize it then, but we were learning to become storytellers.


In our careers in development, we share information about our organizations, current campaigns and special needs. Sharing the vision and the goals we are striving to accomplish can motivate and inspire our supporters to assist us in achieving our missions.

Jeff Lydenberg, Vice President, Consulting, PG Calc, will cover

the basics of identifying donors who have planned giving potential and key techniques for beginning the planned gift conversation. Additionally, the session will review potential gift assets and present case studies of classic planned giving solutions to a variety of donor situations.

Stacy Sulman Stacy B. Sulman, J.D. is the Vice President for Family Philanthropy and Legal Affairs for the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science. In that capacity, she works closely with donors, their families, their foundations, and their professional advisors to develop strategic gifts that mesh donors' financial and estate plans with their philanthropic objectives. Previously, Stacy served as Director of Gift Planning for Weizmann, and as Associate Director and General Counsel for the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest, New Jersey.  Read more »

Philip T. Temple, Esq.  

Philip Temple, one of the leading practitioners and lecturers in the field of gift and estate planning for more than 50 years, passed away after a long illness on August 16.

 

Phil was a frequent presenter on the tax aspects of philanthropy at professional conferences sponsored by the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP), Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York (PPGGNY), other regional councils affiliated with PPP, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, United Jewish Appeal, American Hospital Association, and many other nonprofit groups. In 1989 he made a presentation at the Second National Conference on Planned Giving, entitled "Creative Drafting Considerations for Charitable Remainder Trusts." He spoke at many subsequent NCPG/PPP events on subjects such as the design and use of charitable lead trusts, and gifts of bonds and other financial instruments.  Read more »
