Happy New Year!
Welcome to the second half of our program year. We have a plethora of great programs and educational offerings for you this spring. As we all study the new tax legislation, we are delighted to welcome back Sanford Schlesinger for our January Seminar on how the new law affects philanthropic planning. The seminar will be preceded by a full breakfast. Come join us to network and learn!

SOMETHING NEW IN JANUARY
The new year begins with new tax legislation. Changing times call for innovative training approaches. On January 16, 2013, we will try something new.
To maximize your educational & networking time and get you back to the office in the afternoon, we will have a sit-down breakfast beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 2-hour program on the new tax legislation presented by one of our popular and very knowledgeable speakers on the topic, Sanford Schlesinger.

Mr. Schlesinger is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of estate and tax planning, estate administration, family-owned business planning, charitable planning and all related areas. He also handles all aspects of contested and litigated estate and trust matters.

FEATURE ARTICLE News From Washington by Ron Brown
On Wednesday, December 6, PPGGNY Vice-President Vikki Jones and I met with eight Congressional members and/or their staffs on Capitol Hill in Washington to encourage them not to change the tax deduction for gifts to charity. We were participating in lobbying visits that day with some 240 charitable representatives, who made 200 visits to Congressional offices, organized by The Charitable Giving Coalition.
As readers of The Planner likely know by now, on January 1 the House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill put together in the Senate that makes many changes regarding gifts from an IRA, phaseout of deductions for high-income taxpayers, and higher tax rates (income, capital gains, dividends, and estates). This is breaking news, and as I write the President has not signed the bill into law.
It seems clear that many of the changes will affect philanthropic planning. Fortunately for members of PPGGNY, on January 16 Sandy Schlesinger will explain what these changes mean, and will offer his thoughts on other possible developments in the not-too-distant future related to tax reform legislation, the spending sequester, and the national debt ceiling. His presentation should be well-attended! We hope to see many of you on the 16th, and look forward to maintaining the high quality of professional training and networking we all enjoy through PPGGNY. |
