Several teachers will be offering summer tutoring at our school. Typically we work on reading, writing and/or math. Some teachers offer small groups and book clubs as well as individual lessons.
The fee is $35/hour for individuals and $25/hour for small groups. (We will ask you to pay the school and regular tax deductions are made.)
If you are interested, please email the teacher soon for more information.

Academic Programs for Summer
|
Summer is right around the corner! Schedules fill quickly with sports and camps, but don't forget to include some academic programs to help your child maintain skills over the summer months. Here are some great options for your child:
- The Convent of the Visitation School is again holding classes designed to help children maintain their reading, writing, and math skills over the summer. Jump Start Reading (Orton-Gillingham approach); Jump Start Math (small group); and Jump Start Writing (small group, Kansas Writing Strategies) are each one hour per day, five days a week, for five weeks. The dates for the classes are June 16-July 17. If you are interested in learning more about the program, please visit their website to register: http://www.visitation.net
- Orton-Gillingham of Minnesota is an organization that trains teachers to use this multi-sensory method for reading and spelling. They need students of all ages to serve as practicum students. Students receive one-on-one instruction in hour-long sessions over 2 weeks. The sessions are being held in June and July at Faithful Shepherd in Eagan. The cost is $100 for 9 classes. If you would like more information, please visit their website: http://www.ortongillingham-mn.org
- We also have several St. Thomas More teachers offering private tutoring this summer. Please see the article in the Family Flyer with contact information for the STM teachers offering tutoring in reading, writing and math.

Our Principal - Mrs. Woodard |
The end of an amazing year is here! I can't remember a year that flew by so fast! I hope you each have a restful and enjoyable summer - EVERYONE deserves one!
Don't forget to sign up for SCRIP! Your rebates count towards your fundraising obligation for next year. Think summer trips, outings, etc. It WILL come in handy!
Also, our new tuition payment system, FACTS, will be reaching out to you soon via email to set up your payment options. Remember, that all payments next year will be made via ACH or credit card. There are payment date options and multiple plans to choose from. We hope that the options assist you.
I am thrilled with the choice of the Search Committee and Father Weiss in Lynn Volkenant as the next leader of our school. I am confident that her skills, gifts and experiences can continue to carry STM to great things!
Final First Friday Coffee will be tomorrow! Thank you to everyone who has had a hand in these this year. It is a wonderful way to build community, something we are known for!
The halls will be very quiet next week, but we will still be here closing out the year and planning for the next. If you need something let us know!
In Spirit and Peace,
|

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam - For the Greater Glory of God |
Dear Friends,
Yes, you made it through the last full day of the school year! Congratulations! Before we disperse for Summer Vacation I want to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Woodard for her excellent leadership this year. We are especially grateful for her dedication to our children and their formation in mind, body and spirit. We wish her and her family many blessings in their new home in Dallas!
At the same time I want to welcome Mrs. Volkenant to Saint Thomas More Catholic Community as the Principal of our parish school. She will begin her tenure with us on July 1, 2014.
Finally, thank you to our students, parents, teachers and staff for another excellent year at Saint Thomas More School! May God bless your summer days with joy and peace!
In Christ,
Fr. Joe

Yes, we will have a Summer Stretch program this summer!
|
It will follow the same general format as past years. We will have prayer/discussion followed by a morning of service, a lunch break, and a fun afternoon outing. In past years, the group has served at Feed My Starving Children, food shelves, Friends of the Mississippi. Outings have included the beach, water park, and Grand Slam. Again, the program ends with a day at ValleyFair. The kids have had a great time!
Summer Stretch is for students who have finished 5th through 8th Grade.
We will also be needing chaperone help from all of the parents.
This year Summer Stretch will be on Wednesdays in July (July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30). The ValleyFair trip will be on the 1st Thursday in August (August 7).
Registration forms and details will be forthcoming. At this time, we are asking you to email Bernadette Dodge at the parish center of your interest so we can get a preliminary count. Bernadette's email
Please email Bernadette at your earliest convenience.
We are looking forward to a great summer!!
