"Give good example-teaching more by what you do than what you say." St. Angela Merici
Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
U Impact is a campaign created by Erin McNichol's Communication Arts class to engage the student body in the idea of creating more moments of kindness for one another. The students based their campaign on school data and research, and the girls discussed numerous ways that they "impact" one another. The class created a kindness event each month. Their grand finale event for the 2015-2016 school year was a biodegradable balloon launch on the steps of Cool Springs Park this morning to encourage everyone to release hostilities and move forward in a positive way. Following the launch, the girls celebrated in the sun with water ice.
May God bless you and your families.

What is a Peer Counselor?
A peer counselor is a fellow student who has been specially trained to provide the following confidential services for other students:
- to be a good, non-judgmental listener when a student needs someone to talk to and doesn't feel comfortable talking to an adult;
- to help students with problem-solving;
- to refer students directly to sources of help when the situation calls for it.
When you say "confidential", what do you mean?
Peer counselors are bound by a code of ethics, as are professional counselors. This code says that a peer counselor may not and will not tell anyone about what you have said unless there is a danger to yourself or others. In that case, a peer counselor is ethically and legally bound to refer the problem to a mental health professional. Even when the peer counselors are being supervised by the Counseling Staff as part of their on-going training, names of students will never be used. Only general situations will be reviewed to be sure they are being handled appropriately.

FINE ARTS
FEELS LIKE SPRING AT THE SALESIANUM CONCERT
Celina Ceballos cringes after Will Rotsche makes an impromptu proposal in an amazing rendition of "Yellow Bird" - a Latin song about the pitfalls of romance. The choir had the audience in the palm of their hands with performances of songs from South Africa, to fifties doo-wop, to rousing gospel pieces. Temperatures were rising higher and higher as the choir stomped, clapped and sang their way into the hearts of the audience. The concert officially closed the 2015-2016 season leaving the audience wanting more. Planning for next year is already in the works with a trip to NYC, canoeing down the Brandywine, Night at the Queen, and of course, back by popular demand, Lenten Sketches with a professional orchestra. Students interested in joining choir for the 2016-2017 season may contact Mr. Louden at jlouden@ursuline.org

CLASS NEWS

The sophomore theology classes enjoyed the visit this week of Cecilia Cicone, class of 2013. CeCe graduated from Catholic University this past weekend and will enter the Daughters of St. Paul in September, a religious order that works in communications and publishing. She described her faith journey from her time here at Ursuline, through her college years, and a very special study abroad to Rome. Students asked very good questions. We wish CeCe all the best as she begins to live, learn, and serve with the Pauline Sisters in St. Louis.

As a culminating event for the end of their high school Spanish career, the students in Mrs. Ponte's Honors Spanish V class completed the year by presenting research projects in which they asked questions about communities in the Spanish-speaking world and investigated the answers. Project topics included efforts to reduce crime in Colombia, US drug addiction and its effect on corruption in Mexican government, definitions of beauty in Mexico, the protection of the environment in Costa Rica, and more.
The students who participated in this project were Brianna Altmaier, Liz Baffone, Nina Budischak, Katie Corbino, Elise Cutrona, Julia Glessner, Gina Hallman, Katie Hosey, Cecilia Iversen, Sarah Quillen, Elexa Thomas, and Olivia Troisi.
