Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Ursuline Wilmington welcomes our Sisters from Dedham, St. Louis, and New Rochelle for our 10th Annual Sisters LAX Tournament. This tournament is much more than a series of games. Our girls bond as sisters and form strong relationships. Your daughters are part of a
community rich with tradition. In addition, our athletic activities help develop one's mind, body, and spirit. The girls learn and practice good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, have a great time getting to know their sisters, as well as putting their stamp on tradition.

May God bless you and your families.

 COSTA RICA
During Spring Break, ten seniors traveled to Costa Rica for a Spanish immersion experience. They all signed up for the trip in hopes of improving their language skills as well as learning about the culture, history, and ecology of this beautiful country.

While there, we all learned what "Pura vida" is all about! This expression means "pure life" and is something that is said frequently in daily life in Costa Rica to express a lifestyle of nature, enjoyment, flexibility, and friendliness. We had many amazing experiences there: We learned how to make tortillas, climbed volcanoes, hiked through cloud forests, learned how to salsa dance, spent a day snorkeling on an island in the gulf, observed the way coffee is cultivated, saw many exotic animals in nature, and spoke a lot of Spanish! We are all so grateful for the opportunity to go on this amazing adventure. It is a trip none of us will ever forget!

PARIS

The French 5 Honors class traveled to Paris over Easter break. They left on 3/24/16 and returned on 4/1/16 and spent 7 busy days visiting all the sights and using their French skills. They visited the Sainte Chapelle to see the magnificent stained glass windows, Notre Dame, St. Suplice, the miraculous medal chapel, Notre Dame des Victoires, home parish of St. Thèrese of Lisieux and Sacre Coeur to see the Ursuline window. They toured the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Orangerie and the Musée Marmottan and marveled at the Mona Lisa, the impressionist masterpieces and their favorite, the water lilies by Monet. They went to the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. They toured the Opéra Garnier and were amazed at the opulence and beauty of the space especially the Chagall painting on the ceiling. They finished the week on a night boat trip on the Seine to see Paris by night.

The girls loved the food, especially the pastries and were adventurous in trying new things. If asked, the girls will probably say that the high point was grocery shopping on the Rue des Martyres and preparing Easter dinner at apartment of Mrs. Hickey's son Josh. The girls were able to experience a French dinner "en famille".
The trip was a huge success and the girls are already planning to return.

STUDENT NEWS

I am so thankful for my fourteen Ursuline sisters who came out in force to support the 5k for Youth Overcoming Obstacles. We had a fantastic turnout for an inaugural run, despite the challenging weather conditions. We were thrilled to host over 130 runners with 30 more who registered. This project will go a long way towards supporting opportunities that we hope will provide second chances to  teens and reduce recidivism rates in Delaware. We really appreciate the friends and family members from Ursuline and Sallies who turned out to run, volunteer, and cheer on their friends today.

Today we showed our commitment to preventing child abuse in Delaware by wearing blue.  Students and teachers who wore blue for this special event participated in a planting a pinwheel garden in front of the UA chapel.  If you are campus, stop by to see the pinwheels blowing in the April wind!

CLASS NEWS

The sophomore Theology classes were able to visit the Lower School again during Holy Week.  They made a faith craft that explained the days of Holy Week and then did a craft about Jesus' resurrection.  The young students are such a joy for our sophomores.  There was even some dancing included!  We are fortunate to be able to meet a "buddy" so close by and share our faith.
