"Never fail to render your neighbor the services that may depend on you."  St. Angela Merici

Dear Parents, Students, and Friends,

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lent, a season of penance, reflection, fasting and prayer that prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday. While the ashes symbolize penance and contrition, they are also a reminder that God is gracious and merciful to those who call on Him with repentant hearts. Our community celebrated Mass and received ashes on the first day of Lent, and Thursday, the girls and faculty participated in the Stations of the Cross, led by the 5th grade. Let us pray that reflection and contemplation during this season help us to prepare for Easter.

Prayer

Jesus, we have come together in your name to further learn from you that Christian love is the greatest energy in the world and central to our humanity. We ask for the grace to be receptive to your teaching given through your example.

May God bless you and your families.

The Global Education department has one open spot on the Senior Spanish Immersion trip to Costa Rica.  Any senior Spanish student who is interested should email Mrs. Neill today - the spot closes on February 19th.

Entrepreneur Club tests ideas on Lower School students.

Members of the Entrepreneur Club tested ideas for their business concept with lower school students. The idea is to create a playful adaptation to the existing IV (intravenous) unit used in healthcare facilities. The students are participating in the Diamond Challenge Young Entrepreneur event sponsored by University of Delaware.  The feedback gained at the focus group will be useful as the students refine their ideas in prep for their "pitch" event in March.
For more information about this project, see Mrs. McNichol.

Ursuline Academy will hold a blood drive with Blood Bank of Delmarva from 8:30AM to 12:30PM on Monday, February 22nd.
You can be a hero just by rolling up your sleeve and giving blood! Blood Bank of Delmarva needs about 350 donors a day to supply all 16 hospitals on Delmarva-helping more than 20,000 patients a year. Your one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
Some things to keep in mind if you decide to give blood:
  • You must be between the ages of 17 and 79 years old and have a photo ID with proof of birth date.
  • You must weigh at least 110 pounds.
  • You must be in general good health.
  • If you had a tattoo, body piercing, or branding within the past 2 weeks, you may not give blood. Ear piercing conducted by a reputable technician using an ear piercing gun is acceptable.
  • If you have traveled outside of the U.S., please bring a list of any countries you have visited. You should know where you went, when you went, and how long you were there. Note: Malaria risk areas change on a continual basis. For more information on donor travel guidelines, visithttp://www.delmarvablood.org/locations/donor-travel-guidelines/.
Be Someone's Hero. Give Blood.
We hope you will decide to join in saving local lives.
Please email: ebarnett@ursuline.org if interested in donating or volunteering at the drive.

Thank you!
