"You have every reason to be happy and rejoice, because a great reward awaits you in heaven." St. Angela Merici
Ursuline thanks Pope Francis for his historic journey to Philadelphia. He is truly the people's Pope. He teaches us through his actions to be ready to listen and to learn, while courageously seeking ways to advance and support all members of the human race.
May God bless you and your families.

GLOBAL EDUCATION
On September 23, 2015 a delegation of ten students and three faculty from our sister school, Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Texas arrived in Wilmington for a week-long exchange. The students were hosted by eleven amazing students and their families: Erin & Shannon O'Doherty, Katie & Noelle Shroyer, Erin Davis, Julia Sparco, Annie Colbourn, Erin McGrellis, Brigid Morrissey, Jessie Falasco, & Jordan Kenney.
While here, the Dallas delegation had a very full itinerary, including a tour of Wilmington led by our own Cathie Field Lloyd, a day trip to Lancaster, service at the Food Bank, a day trip to Philadelphia, and time visiting with our middle & lower school students. Students also attended classes and activities with their host sisters and participated in lots of fun family outings with their host families.
The highlight of the exchange was our pilgrimage to see Pope Francis in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 27. We left UA on Sunday morning at 8:30am and spent the day navigating SEPTA and the streets of Philadelphia before landing at our plot at Logan Circle. We had the perfect viewing spot for Pope Francis' parade around Philadelphia. We were less than 100 feet away from him! After the parade, we had the honor and privilege of participating in the Papal Mass - one of the most moving experiences for our students, faculty & families.
We are grateful to UA Dallas for sharing your students and faculty with us and we look forward to many more years of exchange through our sisterhood.

STUDENT NEWS Erin Davis
Lacrosse season didn't end in May this year. Two elite goalie camps hosted hundreds of goalies from across the nation including our own varsity goalie Erin Davis and JV goalie Brigid Morrissey. The Between the Pipes Elite Camp at McDonough School in Maryland began the summer season with an intensive skills and training program over three days. Between the Pipes is coordinated by Lisa Dixon, a former player of Feffie Barnhill, and is nationally recognized as a women's goalie expert. The 2nd Annual Guardian National Championships was conducted at Spooky Nook in Manheim, PA. The competition is focused on measuring the skills and competencies specific to the goaltender. The goalies are evaluated in 15 tests in 4 key areas: reactionary, offensive, athletic, and virtual. Erin finished 2nd in the 2016 age group and 4th overall out of 120 goalies. Awesome job, Erin!

Teacher Tid Bits
Andrew Schneider - Upper School Mathematics
This year my dad and I grew approximately 50 pumpkins over 100 lbs, the largest being in the 225lb range. We also had several others which were much smaller. We have been growing giant pumpkins together for many years. Each year we save the seeds from the biggest fruit and plant those the following year. This year I took blue ribbon in the DE State Fair for heaviest pumpkin! In all, I have won 15 ribbons (of all colors) in the Fair under the garden vegetables division. I recently started growing giant watermelon, my largest this year reached 65lbs. Gardening has always brought me joy in life; I don't grow them for sale or profit, it's just a hobby which I really enjoy doing.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KAILYN KAMPERT
THE WEEK: Had 20 kills, an ace, a block and three digs in Ursuline's 3-2 upset of then-No. 2 Padua last Friday. Also had three kills, two aces, a block and two digs in a 3-0 win over St. Georges last Monday. THE COACH SAYS: Basketball is Kampert's primary sport, but she transforms into a threat on the volleyball court every fall. "She's a tremendous athlete. She can do any sport," Ursuline coach Susan Heiss said. "The thing with volleyball that most people are surprised about is that she does not play club. She plays just ... August through November, and she is just a fantastic player."

Planning has begun for Mardi Gras Casino Night on Saturday, November 7th, 2015 and we need your help. This event is dependent on parent involvement to make it a success! It is our primary fundraising event of the year, and we would really appreciate your support. All proceeds from the Casino Night directly benefit Ursuline Academy. How can you help? It's simple: Grade Baskets and Silent Auction item donations are an easy way to support this event.
Grade Baskets: Each grade has a Basket Coordinator who will be reaching out to you in the next couple of days to ask for a monetary donation for your child's 'grade basket'. The money is spent on creating a unique themed basket to be auctioned off during the Casino Night event.
Each basket is different with themes varying from American Girl to Parents Night Out, and more. The most successful baskets from last year included opportunities to attend Flyers and Eagles games, as well as a nice dinner out coupled with a visit to a local vineyard.
If you have any questions about the baskets, please contact your child's Basket Coordinator. You will be receiving an email from them soon with all the information.
Silent Auction: We are currently requesting donations directly from our Ursuline families. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- Are you a business owner, manager, or employed at a business that might be interested in donating to our auction?
- Do you own a second home in the mountains or at the shore?
- Do you have access to tickets to events that might make a great auction item?
- Do you have silent auction items to donate?
Anything that you donate, whether it is goods or services, can be included as a donation on your tax statement. We will provide a receipt for your generous contribution. Call Risha Gordon at (302) 658-7158 ext. 6246 or email jgordon@ursuline.org if you have any questions. Thank you for your help, generosity, support, and partnership in making a difference in the education of our children.
