The idea came from the Rev. Tim Taugher, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Binghamton . Taugher is an old friend of the Rev. Fred Daley, a fellow Catholic priest and pastor of All Saints Church in Syracuse . They talked Monday on the phone for a long time, and they realized they had similar impressions after weekend services.
Parishioners in both congregations expressed a kind of helpless grief about the killing of 20 elementary schoolchildren and six adults in Newtown, Ct.
"People are really feeling powerless," Daley said, "and they kept asking, 'What can we do?'"
