Hey everyone! I'm Angela! When I'm not a counselor at Buckeye I love to spend my time hiking and exploring nature. During winter you can find me on the mountain snowboarding.
Sabrina Uvanile
I'm a counselor at Buckeye this summer. Past summers I've been a camper, so I hope to make camp as fun for the campers as it was for me. I like to run, take photos of nature and hike. Let's have some fun at camp
Madison Popfinger
Hi my name is Madison and I am a counselor this year, but I am truly a camper at heart. My favorite subjects are English and History, and I hope to enrich your child's summer.

Event Recap

Kiddo Fishing Derby
Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation started off the month of June with the Kiddo Fishing Derby. This is the most successful derby in years. Every kid caught numerous fish, and the weather was beautiful. Buckeye thanks Peter Patton for his years of service for this event. We also thank Fred's General Mercantile for providing hot dogs for our hungry fishermen. We cannot wait to see all the anglers for next year's derby.
Buckeye Bonfire
"With a Lakeside Cookout"
New this summer was our Buckeye Bonfire. This was a great event for visitors and families to meet and socialize over the bonfire by Buckeye Lake. We had over 60 guests attend our Buckeye Bonfire. The weather made for a perfect evening outside near the lake. Toasting marshmallows for s'mores, canoe rides and campfire stories were a few fun activities.
Cool 5 Weekend
Taste
It was wonderful to see so many people support A Cool 5 Race at the Taste of Beech "Italian Night". We had a great menu, and many of the food items were donated by restaurants on Beech including: Fred's Deli, Fast Eddies, Brick Oven, Alpen Inn, and Beech Mountain Club. Thanks to all who came and donated.
Race
We had beautiful weather for A Cool 5 Race this year, and a fun crowd to enjoy it with. Buckeye and TDA want to thank all who participated and volunteered. We had many sponsors of "A Cool 5 Race" who made the race amazing.
Thank you Volunteers! Without you
A Cool 5 would not be possible.

|
June

This month we recommend hiking Falls Trail. With family and visitors coming in this month this trail is a moderate 1 mile hike. Normally this is a loop, but due to the Water Plant construction the trail is a down and back hike. It still goes in front of the waterfall. be sure to send us your hiking pictures to be featured in next month's Buzz to buckeyerec@townofbeechmountain.com

Word of the Month

An inexpensive, non-toxic example of a non-Newtonian fluid is a suspension of starch (e.g. cornstarch) in water, sometimes called "Oobleck," "ooze," or "magic mud" (1 part of water to 2 parts of corn starch). Uncooked cornflour has the same properties. The name "oobleck" is derived from the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck.
Because of its properties, oobleck is often used in demonstrations that exhibit its unusual behavior. A person may walk on a large tub of oobleck without sinking due to its shear thickening properties, given the individual moves quickly enough to provide enough force with each step to cause the thickening. Also, if oobleck is placed on a large sub-woofer driven at a sufficiently high volume, it will thicken and form standing waves in response to low frequency sound waves from the speaker, not to mention endless hours of fun for kids to play with!
