Town of Beech Mountain, Parks and Recreation Department
Buckeye Buzz -  September 2015
Message from the Staff

Fall is almost here, with a chill in the air don't let the cold weather stop you from getting out and enjoying Beech Mountain. The leaves are slowly changing, and Buckeye Recreation Center is gearing up for exciting events.

This is the time of year to get moving. It is one of the prettiest times to be out on a hike, taking in all the vibrant colors as the leaves change.  Also there are many events to bring the family out for. Our Fall hay-ride and Halloween celebrations are quickly coming up, see below for details.

Buckeye has seen a wonderful summer with new members, great guided hikes, improved trails and more water sport opportunities. It is because of you that we continue to grow. We hope you can join us as we gear up for the Fall. Be on the lookout for new fitness evening classes! We look forward to seeing you down at Buckeye. For more information or to find out about volunteering for any of the events/activities in this Buzz, please call the Buckeye Recreation Center at (828) 387-3003.

End of Summer Recap

 Pack the Canoe

Beech Mountain Residence pulled together as a community in effort to support Avery County Schools.  Running for the month of August, Buckeye Recreation Center collected school supplies to "pack the canoe".  We had an excellent turn out from pencils and paper to backpacks and notebooks.  All of these donations have been dropped off at the Avery County School Board with welcomed arms.

Wellness Tip of the Month
Keep hydrated even in cooler weather.
With temperatures dropping it is harder to drink as much water, but it is still important.  In cooler weather we do not sweat as much, but we have a raised body temperature due to wearing more clothes, or heat in buildings.  Swap your iced beverages for hot ones and stay hydrated so that you stay well!

Hiked it, Liked it!

This summer Buckeye Recreation officially opened its long awaited trail system for mountain bikers and hikers. The Emerald Outback trails have been a huge success and great asset to Beech Mountain. A huge thanks to all you have contributed in its development, upkeep, and its future. The EMO has seen such praise and recognition, Appalachian State University will host their season mountain bike race there on October 10th. We hope you have gotten a chance to get on the trails and see how amazing the trail is. Several overlooks for you to take in all the beauty that is Beech Mountain.

Adopt a Trail Program
We have many trails on Beech Mountain, and there are only so many of us.  We need your help to keep them clean.  Stop by Buckeye today to find out how you can help, or click the link below.
